Indeed, I hate when people bring up overclocks which were achieved (instably) on extremely sophisticated and expensive cooling when bringing up arguments on which card is better. The arguments that really matter is how much people have OCed stably on stock cooling.

Guess what, you could also use phase-change, liquid nitrogen, dry ice or whatever to cool a 512 7800GTX (or any card for that matter) and bring up the clocks to those insane speeds, does that make the card better? Absolutely not.

The reason his 3dmark05 score is low is because he's running it on High quality, compared to the standard quality setting. Perhaps he had the resolution set up?

to the OP, run 3dmark 05 in 10x7 (no aa/af) and make sure the nvidia display settings are at quality, and i think that would be a better representation of the cards

Should be a lot closer to 10k with new drivers I would think.
I think a 512MB GTX @ 600/1800 with an X2 oc'ed should bring in at least 10.5k+

A stock 7800gtx 512mb with a stock X2 gets roughly 10k. not sure what drivers were used, but i've seen test screenshots.

so I know the Quadro type cooling is not totally responsible for getting the cores of these new "supper 7800GTX 512mb cards" to higher 580MHz core speed

are these cores just "hand picked" speed binned top performing cores?

or has nVidia changed something in the manufacturing process of the cores to reach these high speeds?

we know they used different RAM...but whats the deal with the core?

I believe its the same core, just clocked higher (and thus the need for such elegant and powerful cooling).

lets all not get go crazy and wait for crap loads of review on 14th nov ! Then we can see really how far this baby can go. Anyways i am not upgrading untill R580 or 7800U come out...

Also i have done benchmarking for two 7800GTX 256MB at same setting he did for 3D 2005 benchmark :
that comp was
1GB kingston hyper X
2x 7800GTX 256MB Gigabyte
Gigabyte SLI comp
AMD X2 3800+
250GB HDD
Water cooling for CPU

and it scored 10500ish , can't remember the excat since i did it 1 week back and never really took notice of the exact score but anyways 7800GTX 512MB should score arround 13K+ at that setting

Just a question cause I'm still in the dark on this: Will there be any 512mb cards that have an MSRP of $600 instead of $650? I read originally that there were going to be 2 price points and I'm hoping that's still the case...

I would like to see you pull one card out and give some numbers that are more realistic to about 95% of the ppl who would buy an 7800GTX 512mb version card....

Yeah exactly, the SLI numbers are meaningless to most of us.

Ya these cards are super quiet by the way, as far as controling the speed og the fans i havnt seen anything in the settings other then a tab allowing you to leave the fans on all the time.

Monarch has two in stock they say right now. The BFG version says new item, usually ships in 4-6 days. The eVGA says usually ships in 1-2 days.

BFG:
Core Clock 580MHz (vs. 550MHz standard)
Memory Clock 1750MHz (vs. 1700MHz standard)

eVGA:
256-bit GeForce 7800 GTX (550MHz clock)
512MB 256-bit 1.1ns (8x32) GDDR3 Memory (850MHz clock - 1.7 effective)

So it looks like 550/1700 is the stock clocks, not 550/1800 as many have assumed. The BFG is the better of those two cards already being overclocked, and with the flame plastic. Hopefully prices will drop fast, and stock will be high.

Oh ya the default clock is 580/1.73 the Detect optimal settings are 603/1.77, Also when i close my case after playing BF2 for 3 hours my Card 1 temp is 81C and my card 2 temp is 62C. I think im gonna mount a Fan blowing between the 2 cards so the 1st card gets cooler Air.

For me, I'm waiting for NVIDIA to support other Non nForce chips. I think I'll get the ATI X1800XT because that will support the 975X chipset and I'm waiting for Yonah to show up.

Cool, I'm guessing those cards would run fine at 600/1.75 or 1.8 24/7 on water then.

The evga card link is working again and god damn... that's way too rich for my blood. If there's a 7800GTX 512mb that's selling for $600 or under, then I'm fine. But that's the absolute limit for me.
