I have a 512gb Transcend SSD that uses the same controller as these Mushkin drives. Solid performer for day to day use and gaming. Will it sit atop SSD benchmarks? No, but for typical PC use and gaming it'll do what you need.

Just think, nearly 3 (4?) short years ago, I purchased a 240GB Mushkin Chronos Deluxe SSD for $239. Back then, that was a cutting-edge price. Only $1/GB! What a steal!

Now we're at $0.25/GB! What a steal!

(And hopefully the drives will be more reliable, too. My Mushkin kicked the bucket within a month.)

Heh, I was one of original consumer SSD adopters when I purchased my Intel X25-M 160gb. I was able to find a connection that brought the price down from 700 to 225 USD for a new unit. It still works to this day.

I've stated in the past... I expect a $99 512GB SSD on Black Friday. Next year, these 1TB drives could easily be less than $100, well before Black Friday 2016.

Platter drives may also finally improve in price over the next year (finally, after the artificial justifications for the high prices for the past 5 years!!) - with 4TB drives being the lower end (sub $100). With SSDs getting cheaper, platter drives have to do something to compete, and providing cheap storage capacity is their only advantage these days.

I recently fished an 80GB Intel 320 SSD out of storage and popped it into my two year old asus laptop (which I use 90% of the time). Windows 10 64bit running on there smooth as a whistle. I always liked this drive; better than Samsung. Now my desktop is running on a 250GB Crucial that was $56 a coupla months ago. It's all good.

That is their eco model not the reactor. Reactor model 512gb is $150.

I've stated in the past... I expect a $99 512GB SSD on Black Friday. Next year, these 1TB drives could easily be less than $100, well before Black Friday 2016.

Honestly, for the most sought after models (read: samsung evo), i think that is a bit too optimistic. But for the drives that do not have the marketing campaign behind them that Samsung definitely has, i'm thinking 512GB may fall to $125ish. The Evo is in so much demand that i do not expect to see a 512GB $100 unit on Black Friday. But it would be great if you are correct.

Oh, and i bit on this Mushkin, though I had been wanting to hold out for a 1TB Evo. A 1TB Evo may dip to the $250-260 range on Black Friday, but I think it will be months before that becomes the common price.

Well, EVO is pretty much a mid-level line, so no, I wouldn't expect it to hit $100 for a 512GB drive by next week... but if the Black Friday price holds for budget SSDs, I do expect it to hit that around late January, since Samsung tracks nicely with the low end.

Samsung has done a lot to drive prices down, since the EVO line is respectable enough that the competition has to follow whatever pricing Samsung does.

Well, the 840 EVO was not... good, but before that, Samsung was underpricing its lessers (and didn't have many betters). Their SSDs have always been reasonable and good performers.

They did the same thing with RAM back in the day. Remember Samsung's "Magic RAM"? Cheap as heck, great performing DDR3 4GB RAM Sticks for $20, when the competition was twice that price. The only thing that changed was RAM's market shift to mobile and Samsung's Magic RAM dried up in the supply channel (and naturally, without Samsung in the game, prices went up up up)

It would be awesome if in 12 months we could have a 850 Evo 2TB under $150. Unfortunately I suspect that would take closer to 24-36 months rather than just 12.

Anyone ever used a Sandisk SSD? I have some of their SD cards, but didn't even know they made SSDs.

Looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820173012 which is the 480GB $110, or the 960GB for $200 ($120 off)
