1U rack coolers - need help BAD

Folks -

I've been trying to find some quality 1U coolers for xeons, p4's, and p3's. Looking to cover p4's/xeons up to 2.8, and p3's at 1.4.

I am looking for something of the blower type, instead of the standard fan on top.

These would be for 1U cases, any links or models would be appreciated.

And yes, I've tried the "1U" coolers from Jag, Thermaltake, and a few others and they don't work well for us.

I'm using ATXcase.com 1U's.

Also would like to find some good general 1u case blowers.

P4 Passive Cooler
Not sure about 1U cooling but you could try the one above and use a 80mm fan to blow on it.

Tip: Try looking for heatpipe cooling, like the ones found in those small cube PCs.

What is the internal air temperature of the cases? Intel shows a Thermal Design Power of 68W for the Xeon For 1U Servers 2.8GHz, with a maximum inlet temperature of 45C for the heatsink. So the stock retail Xeon For 1U Servers coolers are represented as being able to do the job with an air temperature of 45C at the point where the fan draws air into the heatsink.

If top-of-the-line 1U coolers aren't getting the job done even with a 1400MHz Tualatin (max thermal output only 34 watts) then I'd suspect airflow problems are preventing the heatsinks from getting cool air and it might be worthwhile to switch cases if you have to... time is money, and downtime is Money with a capital M.

I noticed that the cases have a wall with a couple of centrifugal blowers in it, but air can easily make an end run around the end of that wall and get recirculated. If I had to try something on the spot, I would get a piece of cardboard and extend that all all the way across, so air that's blown toward the rear of the case has no choice but to leave out the back. Does that make sense?

As far as heatsinks go, my top pick for the Tualatins would be an Alpha PAL153U but it sounds like you've been there, done that... hmm. That heatsink, with the fan shown, is only 6°C behind the enormous Alpha PAL8045 with a low-flow 80mm fan in AnandTech's testing, and they come right out and say the tests are directly comparable. As I said, if that kind of cooling can't do the job, maybe it's the case not giving it cool air to use.

For the Xeons, if it were a 2U setup then Taisol has an interesting crossflow model here. but that's not going to work in a 1U

I was rummaging around SuperMicro's site and found some photos of their setups, if it's helpful: Link to some of their 1U chassis that have space for slim CD and floppy and ones without CD/floppy bays. You can find pricing at Techstore.com, search for SC812.

Thanks, you know where I can but the Alpha online anywhere? Pricewatch comes up empty.

I'd also like to buy some of the cooljags, from their site I wanna try the JACA91C and 92C and the JACA44C, but can't find em too.
