1x32GB RAM PC3L-8500R in Mac Pro 2013 possible??

So I have a RAM stick 1x32GB RAM PC3L-8500R ECC from a working server. Can I use that in the new Mac Pro 2013?

So I think that it might work (reliably)?
I will not have dual channel but at least I have a lot of RAM, which is more important to me.

The stuff from OWC is all PC-10600, not PC-8500. I wouldn't want to slow my system down, personally.

I haven't got the Mac Pro yet. But the standard 12 GB RAM it is coming with is not enough for me...I constantly have hundreds of programs and tabs open.

quad channel .... wlill be sinple channell. Yes it will be slowed down.

If you're spending big bucks for a Mac Pro, cheaping out on RAM upgrades by doing them with quasi-compatible components seems kind of odd to me, specifically, it seems to defeat the purpose of shelling out for a high-end, rock solid, blazingly fast, workstation. At least IMHO.

Yes, they are PC-10600, however, due to technical limitation, they can only run at 1066MHZ (up to 8-core model), or 800MHz (10-core or above) in the new Mac Pro. So, it works, but will be much slower than it's spec.

I'm certainly not an expert on mac, but most workstations don't support registered DIMMs out of the box. Can someone confirm if this is the case with the Mac Pro?

Unbuffered (UDIMM) or Registered (RDIMM).

It'll probably work, since apparently reg. DIMMs are okay in those machines.
Give it a try, at worst it won't boot, and you'll have to put the old RAM back in.
Speed will be quite slow, so if you're going to do a lot of streaming compute tasks on the CPU, prepare for a performance dip with workloads that fit into your current memory.

What you shouldn't do is mix and match RDIMMs and UDIMMs, I think that might confuse the memory controller. Even if those channels are separate to a degree, I think timing and ECC are going to be synchronized across the channels.

You could just buy some cheap, fast ECC UDIMMs though, and get those 32 GBs with much less of a headache, and more bandwidth. But yes, it's probably going to be more expensive than whatever you have now.
