My system:

Abit IS7
2.4c retail stock cooling
OC system 512 memory

Will not overclock beyond 2.6!! i don't get this at all. i have adjusted the memory ratio to 5:4 and 3:2, made 66/33 the fixed agp/pci ratio, and it won't even boot into windows at 2.8.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, PC 3200

I don't know how good the ram I have is, I just know it is OC system brand.

Oops! (above)

I am using the 13 bios, and the cpu is retail.

I have 350w ps.

I find it hard to believe that with the same stepping, I would get worse results than someone else with the same kind of processor.

Could you provide tips on what i might need to adjust , or not adjust.

Thanks

You may not understand what I am asking (sorry)

If I am only reaching speeds of 2.6 and maybe 2.8, then what are possible problems/fixes?

Intel 2.4c RETAIL
Abit IS7
2x256 OC system pc3200 cl2.5

Here is what I was trying:

250 fsb
5:4 mem ratio
1.6 vcore
2.7 vdimm
2.5-6-3-3 mem timings

It would boot into windows, but then crash after a few seconds.

recently i got a 2.4c, kingston hyperx pc3200 and p4c800 deluxe. at first i couldn't get anywhere either but try to set everything on auto, besides the vcore n vdimm, and increase fsb. see what happens.

my stats:
2.75 vdimm
CL 2-2-2-6
1.7 vcore
250fsbx12
ddr speed at auto
agp/pci clock at auto also

i know we have different motherboard but i hope my comment will help some what.

*performance on auto

mt3580:

I tried what you said, and unfortunately, got loud beeps, and no post. What memory ratio did you use, bc on my bios, the "by spd" setting is totally crap, and when you try to oc, it does not adjust beyond 1:1.

I think that the 1.7vcore is a little high, maybe that is a problem for me.

Oldfart:

If by performance mode, you mean the pat thing, I have not adjusted that.

Please help!

i dont think the IS7 has any performance modes. maybe you can try using just 1 stick of ram. and try increasing the timings of the ram to a higher number, i think that makes it slower and more stable. let us know what happens.

The IS7 does have a performance mode with the latest bios.
Anyway, been running my new system for the past few days and I've tried overclocking my 2.4c unsuccessfully... for now. Still a newbie on o/c a P4
But I have tried several settings for my RAMS. Its running stable @ 2-3-3-6 in the Ultra mode, with AGP Refresh cycle rates set to Aggressive and vDDR @ 2.65v. But this setting takes a little coaxing as I had to set these in stages to be able to boot into Windows. Strange.
If anyone with the same/similar specs as my system please offer some advice.

Abit IS7 with IS7G13B3 BIOS, P4 2.4c SL6WF Costa Rica @ stock speed, 2x256 GeIL Golden Dragon DDR400 PC3200, Antec 450W PSU, MSI GF4 4200Ti, SBLive MP3+, Seagate Barracuda 40 GB, IBM DPTA 20.5 GB, Pioneer 105S 16X DVD, Creative 121032A CDRW.

Although the memory may be crap, with a 3:2 ratio at 250 fsb, it should be an underclock on the memory right? Therefore, it would not affect the overclock at all. Even if the memory is underclocked, can it still have an affect on the overclocking potential?

Maybe my processor and Voltaire's are just not as overclockable as others. I don't know.

Is there something obvious that I am doing wrong? You must remember that I am new to overclocking, and may be forgeting something important.

I have also tried raising the memory timings and using one stick of it, but it only made it worse.

BTW, I can't pass Prime95 with a 217 fsb. That seriously sucks.

are you sure you're saving the changes when you exit the bios?

if there are no performance modes on, you are at 3-3-3-7, and a 3:2 mem ratio, agp/pci is fixed, you should get a better overclock.

however, we are not guranteed anything.... overclocking is a luck of the draw deal.

what are your cpu temps btw? what is your cpu voltage? does your board undervolt on anything?

Randy Savage:

With what you said to do, I could not pass Prime 95 with a 234 fsb.

What voltages would you reccommend to go along with your other reccommendations?

Right now, I am using stock voltages (1.525 vcore, 2.6 vdimm).

If I buy better RAM, will I be able to overclock any more?

That would be really awful if I just have a very un-overclockable chip.

Oldfart:

Unfortunately, still can't boot stably into windows with 250 fsb.

I guess better RAM is the only thing to do; That should help right??!!
