'taint the RAM if it is fine at all system defaults and you are underclocking it with the dividers when attempting a FSB/CPU o'erclock. First off, what voltage is on the CPU box? What does CPU-Z show? Voltages are fixed depending on the quality of the CPU so that will be an indication. As RandySavage says, check the CPU temps and make sure the HS is installed correctly.

The CPU box says 5.25, which is my default.

CPU-Z says that the voltage (stock settings) is 1.472 v

I have a family F, model 2, stepping 9, revision D1 processor.

Says memory is running at 3-3-3-8, 200.5 mhz

Hope this means I am just making a mistake somewhere.

run memtest(if you havent) and check your memory for errors.. OC system is crap like stated up...

the618,
Memory quality aside, I think o/c'ing with the IS7 needs to be done in stages. Previously, I have tried running tweaked settings ie o/c's CPU settings + tweaked DDR settings all at one go. It didn't work for me. No o/c even beyond 2.4!
Then, I've tried setting the CPU speed first, finding the most stable speed. I've reached 290 yesterday, but crashed upon running 3DMark2001. I've set it to a conservative 270 and it ran like a dream @ 3244 MHz... just a little hotter on UT2003.
After that, I've started playing with the DDR settings. With the latest 1.3 BIOS, I have my DDR @ 1.65v, 2-3-3-6, Street Racer mode, Refresh Cycle rates set to 'Strengthened'. That is my most stable settings. PSB strapped to 800 @ 3:2. CPU is running at 1.575v.
All I need now is a good HSF to push my CPU a little further than 3.24.
I'm not sure if you have tried doing this yet , but I hope this could be of some assistance

hey, guys, i've been struggling with a similar frustration, can get my 2.4/ic7/corsair 3200 to 248PSB w/spd mem (2-3-3-7) and 5:4 ratio, but at 249 it won't even post! this seems wierd, to go from stable to nothing with a 1mhz increase - with my amd mobo's there was always a range of speeds between stable and no post that "sort of" worked! anyway, i had tried increasing the vcore to 1.7 with no effect, but based on your suggestions i put vdimm up to 2.8 and, shazam, now i'm running at 250! anyway, my question is, why does vdimm effect the stability when i'm actually just running my mem at stock speeds (4/5x250 = 200)? also, over-volting makes me nervous. will this significantly reduce the life of my components?

My OCZ PC3500 EL dual channel kit of 256MB would get me 270FSB and no more.I put my OCZ PC3700 in 512MB one stick and I went to 280 FSB.I bought OCZ PC3700 Gold dual channel kit or 256MB and hit 292 FSB.I was hitting a wall also and no amount on vcore, vdimm, timings, ratios, anything would get me higher until I bought the OCZ Gold.I knew my ram was holding me back.I don't know if its your ram but it was for me cause you should not hit a wall and no tweaking would do anything. This is on a Asus P4P800 mobo and 2.4C

Here is what I tried:

250 fsb
PSB800
5:4 mem ratio
Fixed 66/33 agp/pci ratio
1.6 vcore
2.8 vdimm

Did not boot into windows.
Tried 245; no.
Tried 235; no.
Tried 225; wouldn't pass prime95 for the 1st test.
Tried 215; yes.

Woohoo! i have overclocked 100 mhz! (just kidding with the enthusiasm)

I guess it is the RAM. oh well.

Doesn't have to be OCZ gold. The Twinmos 3700 is good and less money.Check out these 2 threads on the IS7 that might help you get a little further.Read them both, not very big threads.

BleedinEdge IS7
ABX IS7

UGH. What timings were you running on the ram? What kind of ram is it? Try 3:2 to get the ram speed down real low and see what happens. This will help to further determine if it is ram or CPU

GUESS WHAT?????!!!!!!! It booted into windows (I am getting really excited) but it didn't pass prime95.

I guess that means that I have a crappy chip, right?

I am really pissed off right now. Do you thing newegg will let me RMA it?

The reason I decided to go with the 2.4c was it SUPPOSEDLY had really good overclocking potential (100 mhz--woohoo!)

Sorry for the tone, I am just not real happy right now.

Man... I know how that feels...
What the heck, you might as well RMA both the ram & cpu and see what happens. Or get rams of other brands, if your budget still permits it
Keep us updated & good luck, buddy!

well, it is 2.5 @ pc3200 speeds... and you have 2 sticks... by the time you factor in an undervolting board...

I would see if you can find a couple sticks of better ram... if they dont improve your OC, send em back.

can you increase the mem voltage above 2.8? I am incredibly skeptical of ram specs because it is cl2.5 @ pc3200 @ ???Vdimm. If you have an undervolting board, you may never be able to hit spec.

I wouldn't try increasing Vcore yet (unless you are undervolting anyway)... at stock, you should be getting a much bigger OC.

So RandySavage, if I understand you right, you think it is the RAM.

What kind would you recommend?

The other stuff was purchased from OC system (I bought before I read these boards--hard lesson to learn), how do I find what the specs for voltage are?

Oldfart, the memory (obviously probably by now) is OC system brand. Mind you, the rest of the sys is not; this was my first computer that I built.

Anyone know anything about Newegg's RMA policy?

I really think its the ram, not CPU that is causing you the problem. Get a couple of good sticks of Corsair or Kingston HX and you should be looking better. Check out the FS/T forum. Lots of people have ram for sale there.
