2.4C temperature?

Hi,

I've got my 2.4C using the retail heatsink, and its running about 42-46C, normal loading. I haven't tried it with any heavy applications yet, but I'm worried its running too hot. I replaced the thermal pad that came with the retail heatsink with artic silver, and I'm thinking I might not have applied it well or something. THe case temperature is 27C, its a large Cheiftec case, with 5 case fans, so the heatsink is getting plenty of cool air. My friend bought a new cooler for his 2.4C, and has an unused retail heatsink. Should I remove my current one, take off the artic silver, and just use the thermal pad, or would that be hotter?

what mobo are u using...cause there are mobo out there reporting higher temps...
and btw...all you need is a thin layer of artic silver covering the chip...

p.s. stay away from the thermal pad on the retail heatsink

I would recommend you use an aftermarket Heatsink the retail heatsinks never provide efficent cooling. 42-46 degress is airly high for a 2.4c to running under normal load, under load that temp will increase anwhere from 5-10 degrees. So an invest in a good aftermarket heat sink and your should see the temps drop anywhere from 10-20 degress (it made a 15 degress difference for me ) and u for extra cooling just convert your cpu case into a ghetto box and leave the case open

Since you are running an IC7, the temp readings are higher than actual.

I ran my 2.4c over the weekend stock with the thermal interface stuff. Now I'm running AS3 (no AS Ceramique ) Using a p4p800 deluxe and the stock heatsink I'm running a very stable 3.4GHz at 1.56volts, 35c idle, 48-50 loaded with Prime95, 3dMark, and Sandra Burn In all running simultaneously. My memory is the weak link thus far, I went budget (anticipating the better ~250MHz+ low latency RAM to come this summer) Kingston Hyper X PC3500. I'm running it at 2/3 (187MHz) ratio with 2-2-2-7-8 with Hyperthreading enabled
My Sandra benches are-
3611 int (unbuffered)
3605 float
and
5368 int(buffered)
5365 float
I actually had better memory benches @ 3.0GHz, but I think it's worth it for the extra 400 MHz, eh?
