Decent deal, but those 2.5" hard drives are expensive, but good for moving lots of data at once.

Thanks Tanner! I have an old lappy HD lying around somewhere. Last time I checked, these things were between $60 and 90.

You might want to be careful if you are using an "older" lappy because the USB port might not be able to supply enough power to the drive (it will also depend on the HD power consumption). I believe the IDE HD Enclosure from CompGeeks does NOT come with the PS/2 Power Cable (where the enclosure draws power directly from the PS/2 port of your laptop if the USB can't supply the power)...

btw, does anyone know where you can actually buy separately one of these PS/2 Power Cables (or can someone sell me or give me his/hers if not needed - these are usually bundled with HD enclosures from other online stores). NOTE: You won't need the PS/2 Power Cable unless you have like a Pentium I laptop or something this ancient.

Funny, I was at Compgeeks yesterday looking for these and they were OO stock....DieselMan, does this come with some cable I won't need that you want? If so, I'll throw it in the mail...

higgins, thanks for the offer; unfortunately the CompGeeks model does not come with that cable (because it is rarely needed; recent laptops' USB ports can easily supply the power needed for even the most power-hungry 2.5" IDE drives).

There was a thread posted earlier that had notebook hd's listed from NewEgg.com.

20GB = $94
30gb = $142
48gb = $350

Edit: Ahh here's the thread....
