2.6C Here - Changed the format so started a new thread.

Added tests using 1006-003 BIOS

Looks like both of these boards are about the same when running a 533fsb chip.
Only ran a few tests since everthing was coming out to be so close.
Have not updated the BIOS on the P4C800 to 1003 or 1004 yet.
Maybe that will make some difference between the two boards but I doubt it.
However, I do think that the 2.6C HT may be a different story. Should have
the new chip next week. At 260-270fsb it will be about the same cpu speed
as my 2.53 but will be at DDR400+ using 5:4 ratio.

It seems that the board undervolts without the "cpu vcore offset +0.10v" set to enabled.
These tests that I ran thus far are with this offset disabled.
My ATI AIW 9700 is ver. XX-95700-01 and have not experienced any problems so far.
I did turn off write combining and fast writes as I had to do with the P4G8X board.

On a side note:
The onboard LAN is working with my
TimeWarner Cable modem which it never did
on the P4G8X. The onboard LAN and USB are
the only enabled onboard extras that I am using.

Alreday listed it in the FS forum.
I doubt it could match the fsb of the P4C800 with its limitations, so guess not.

great job jhites

ill assume you needed setFSB to get past 165fsb?
are there any other bugs on the board?

P4G8X forever eh?

WELL...that last one didn't work too good now did it.

Thugsroot or jhites, at one time I asked one of you what CPU fan you were using to O/C without changing your core. I think it was Thugsroot. I have since lost that post...could you tell me again? My computer runs fine when loaded at 59C, but it just seems high. Just keeping up with the P4C800 now.

Thanks.

Yep! Used SetFSB above 160fsb and did test to verify the bug.
No other bugs to report. The undervolting is pretty unique for Asus but it has the +0.10v feature.
I don't use the onboard sound but have heard that there are some
problems. Even the mem timings work. Amazing!

Going to check out this overclocking +30% feature later and also try the other two bios updates
to see if they hold any improvement.

Just had that P4G8X way to long. Going on a couple of months now.

I am using a Thermalright SLK900U with a 92mm Panaflo 52cfm.
I am getting about 46C max heavy load on the P4C800 right now.

You might check Thugs thread on the P4G8X vs IC7 for his.

PS: It is Thugsrook not root.

Sorry I'm off topic--I looked up both of your heatsinks. jhites, your heatsink must need a gigantic case . Will both work on the P4G8X-Deluxe? I'm leaning towards the Thugs model, it looks like it fits better although it's more expensive.

On topic, that P4C800 sounds pretty slick, I was tempted to bite--but my next requirement is PCI-X, as I don't see 400MHz FSB that much of an improvement to make the jump yet.

Both heatsinks fit and so does the Alpha 8942.

They are what we are using on the P4G8X-D boards.

Heh, I don't blame for you selling it. Can't wait until you get that 2.6 in there. BTW, is the new Asus 3 phase power now for the cpu? What are the vcore fluctuations like on it now?

Have not been able to find much on the 3 phase power design other than it is present and adds support for Intel's next generation Prescott CPU's.

The voltage fluctuations on the P4C800 are much tighter.
I am only getting a 0.04v drop from idle to full load vs the P4G8X of 0.08v
and about 0.03v using MBM to monitor idle fluctuation.
Very impressed with the board at this point.

Really looking forward to the 2.6C review. Lets hope these things open a new chapter in P4 overclocking!

This is very interesting. I think this is the most critical aspect of ocing a 533fsb cpu. We'll see how critical this is for the 2.6 and the newer stepping cpus though.

Thanks for the info!

FedEx delivery shows Thursday for 2.6C.

I hate waiting for stuff. :frown: :disgust:

If I still have the P4G8X, I may see how the 2.6C
does with both boards.

Question is how good is this XMS3200LL.
Never had it above DDR380 - 190fsb due to
limitation of my 2.53 chip.

Just flashed to the new 1006-003 BIOS.
Fixed fsb hole and gives vcore up to 1.95v

Just booted 175fsb and bus and mem timings are
showing true. Running Prime and a few benches to
test how it compares to other 1002 bios.

Check the Official Asus P4C800 Thread for update and links.

All seems to be going well at this point.
