Good evening all.

I have xfinity internet with a CAX80 modem currently. The modem/router combo is garbage and I am done with it. I might be able to pull 1400+ mbps down, but the connection is terrible, the 2.5gbps port randomly disconnects, the modem frequently reboots. It's awful.

Anyway, I am looking for a new modem and a new router. I want to run ethernet from the modem to the router, from the router to my computer and get my 1400+ download speeds. What is the best option? I'm not worried about price, I just want the most stable connection possible.

Arris S33.

Funny, my gut was telling me to go with either the G36 or the S33. I do realize the g36 is a modem/router combo, but for some reason I am so drawn to it. Probably because I have terrible luck with routers.

Ok, last question for you good sir. I assume my EAX80 wifi extender will work with this router and extend/enhance the signal to my back bedrooms? My house is small, but with where the router has to be located, there are a lot of walls. I know my CAX80 couldn't get the job done on its own, hence why I bought the EAX80. Just want to make sure that I can use it as a wireless extender, as I don't want to run ethernet half way across my house to it lol.

I had been suing the MB8600 before switching to TMHI recently but the modem has 4 ports you can LACP into a single "connection" and get up to 2gbps from. It's been solid for ~7 years and still works great with solid connectivity,

Breaking the 2 components apart into modem / router is ideal as well. Netgear does make a 2.5gbps modem only CM2000 which might work better but, it's a bit pricey ~$100 more than the MB8600 or the new Motorola MB8611 @ $180

As to the router side of things pick your poison of the least amount of bugs possible. For the prices of modern routers for me it was more worthwhile to just turn a PC into a router and hang an AP off it instead of buying the junk being sold these days.

ASUS routers get HOT.... so HOT you could probably fry and egg on one.
If you get one, make sure it sits under a laptop cooler.
