I had a program awhile back that worked perfect. But for the life of me I can't seem to remember the name. Can anyone help me out?

I can't think of it, but I do that in XP using Windows Sound Recorder with WAV files. If I had to do it with AVI, I would convert to WAV, do, and then convert back to AVI.

Virtual Dub might do it, if you are trying for just 2 avi files in one container (i.e. keep them separate but in one file) mkv files can do that.

Virtual Dub! That was it. Thanks for refreshing my memory

However, Its not working for some reason

When I try to load a .avi file I get this error.

Couldn't locate decompressor for format "Xvid" (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by windows media player, are not suitable.

Looks like you need to download Xvid

That works! Thanks!

*edit*

Apparently saving as .avi = one VERY big movie. How can I change this? I need it to fit on a dvd.

My friend, it sounds like you recompressed the video (which I believe you have to when combining.. I don't remember if you can simply "combine" them using VDub)... and it sounds like you forgot to set the compression codec and you ended up with one huge mamma jamma of a file.

Windows Movie maker that's likely built right into your OS. Done it many times. Easy peasy.

You best bet is to use 'direct stream copy' (in 'video' menu).

This will give you 2 advantages: 1) it will take close to zero processing time and 2) it will prevent video quality degradation since most video clips out there are compressed by lossy codecs (wiki), and that means that every time you compress the video it losses some of its information and doing that repeatedly will cause your video to degrade in terms of quality.

Open Windows Movie Maker and press the F1 key.

For "Play" on DVD, you need to convert it to MPEG2 which takes a DVD authoring tool. If you have Vista, it is a link out of WMM under File, Export IIRC.
