It helped my athlon 64 3400+ a little. If anyone needs a heatsink this would definetly be a good one to start with. Through playing around with it a little, I noticed that the fins barely got warm except at the way base. I then realised that the problem with this heatsink is not a lack of copper, or inadequite air flow, but rather, the heatsink does not come in full contact with cpu. In fact, on my athlon 64 less, than 2/3s of its surface is covered by the base of the heatsink. In the next week or so, I plan on milling out a copper bar to fit on the base of the heatsink and then weldit on. If this thread is still active i'll post my results.

Can someone please explain why I hate it when people use the word "mine" in plural form? Is it me or does it just make that person sound like a Moron, or "Morons". I realize of course that the person starting the topic used the term in jest, so I understand that, but hearing the word "mines" makes me cringe in terror.

This looks like a great deal.

But how is the noise level compared to the real Zalman? The Zalman has adjustable fan speed, but it doesn't state anywhere on svc about the fan speed being adjustable on the 'knock-off' version? Noise levels are very important to me.

Also, I currently have a Thermaltake TR2-M2 which I'm pretty disappointed at the performance. http://svc.com/nthtrwtmdfan.html

Would this zalman knockoff be head over heels better?

Thanks

It came with a box that will reg the speed of the fan as well. As far as noise I cannot hear it at full speeds. Or I should say it was no different maybe slightly better then my thermaltake 80mm I had on my other. I am very happy with the price and how well it works.

I didnt get one, cause one lurking question....... how the heck do they mount the fan on it? no way I would want to keep the stock fan

anyone got pictures? pictures with the fan off would be great

Im guessing its a 92mm fan, I got a yateloon 92mm sitting around beggin to be put on something like this even if i have to mod it a bit

The fan is held on with two very long screws under the fan. To see it you need to move the blades to get at it. Kind like the old orb chip set coolers that had three small screws that held it on but think of it about 300 times larger.

As far as the size the unit is 12mm arond and the fan goes around the outside so I would say it is a 100mm fan (is there such a thing?)

How flat and smooth is the bottom? Anyone put one on and take it off again?

Maybe good, but not a deal if you have to spend an hour lapping the bottom smooth and flat. Some cheap stamped or extruded coolers are so concave that Athlon XPs only touch the heatsink on the very edge of the core. The edges get chipped, the heatsink paste cooks out of the large gap, and temps shoot way up.

All I can tell you is it is alot quieter then my old thermaltake I had on my other hs I took off. It is super quiet and the case is less then a foot from me and this includes the 2 120mm that came with my case. For all I know all I am hearing is them and not the cpu fan at all. Sorry I cant give you a db but take my work mines is quiet.

As for the mines joke. thats it it was. I keep hearing people lately saying mines and it stuck in my head. I really had no idea some of you would take such offense to me using mines instead of mine.

damnit...I just realized this heatsink utilizes the mounting holes around the socket A. Sucks for me, my KD18pro doesn't have those mounting holes.

is there any sort of adapter available for people like me without the mounting holes for a heatsink like this?

If it is socket a it doesnt need the holes. It comes with an adapter that clicks on to the socket itself. Very cleaver imo because I thought the same when I bought it too but my board has holes so I was ready but it doesnt need them.

Wow awesome news man thanks! Must be something they included only with these knockoffs because from what I read with the real Zalman's they can only be used with mounting holes around the sockets.

Ordered one and it should arrive by thursday. I'm thinking it's going to be a 50/50 chance it'll clear all my capacitors and I ordered a new low profile chipset cooler since I know for a fact it won't clear my current one. Thanks again for all the info and for posting the deal!

I hate when companys do this, raised the price to $12.99

thats a bad business practice, because we here find a good value in it and actually buy them they decide to raise the price, just greedy and looks bad
