2 button mouse? Scroll wheel?

Does Apple make any mice with these "features"? I'm thinking about getting a Mac, but not having a scroll whell (or a 2 button mouse) is a deal killer. And no number pad on the wireless keyboard sucks, too...

Why does Apple insist on stupid decisions like these?

Why does Apple insist on stupid decisions like these?

1, they originally came with 1-button mice
2, the Mighty Mouse has multiple buttons
3, you can use any multiple-button mouse on your Mac
4, the new wireless keyboard is more for loungers/multimedia people

The only "stupid decision" is to buy equipment that's not right for you. There are thousands of peripherals available for OS X, pretty much anything that runs on Windows...no one is forcing you to buy Mac hardware. If you don't like the current wireless keyboard, get the last-generation white wireless keyboard with a number pad or a Microsoft wireless keyboard.

If not having a 2-button mouse is a "deal killer" for you, then you need to do some more research before buying a Mac

I personally don't care for the mighty mouse. The shape is horribly unergonomic. The ball on top gives very little tactile feedback. The side buttons require a lot of force. It does look cool (as most Apple stuff does), but it comes at a cost of usability.

Considering how much you typically use a mouse, you owe it to your hand to find one that is comfortable. Find one that fits you hand well and has the buttons that you want.

The Mighty Mouse just doesn't do it for me. I've grown accustomed to the trackpad with the 2-finger scrolling, and a microsoft optical explorer mouse for when I'm not using that. Any USB mouse/KB will work. Use whatever mouse you like the best.

I use a Logitech MX700 at home, and a Kensington optical wired mouse w/wheel at work.

I like setting the wheel-click to activate Exposé.

I'm using a Mighty Mouse, used to use a Logitech MX510/518, and I have to say that this mouse is comfortable for me also.

It's not cumbersome, but not as ergonomic as the Logitech, but I really like being able to scroll sideways, so that has influenced my decision A LOT!

I hate the mighty mouse as well. I use a MS Wireless Laser 6000 or something. I'd get a logitech, but I heard the drivers were terrible. That and the mouse I want is far too expensive.. haha.

You can basically use almost anything you want that is USB and from a decent company usually.

As for the wireless keyboard having no number pad... how many people do you know use it? Given who Apple is marketing to... I doubt enough ppl to make a difference for them to change it. The location of the onboard USB ports on the wired one however, are a very poor decision.. as it easily could have been a nice and quick dock for thumb drives.

Has anyone used the Logitech g9. I just bought one for my laptop and im thinking of replacing my old dell laptop with a mac, so i'd wanna use the mouse since i spent 100 on it lol.

Also what does the second click do in OSX? Anything? or is it pointless?

It seems like a hard habit to break for us long time windows users

They do, and it comes as standard.

Of course, you can also use any usb mouse you want, and everything just works.

Oh wow, that mouse looks pretty cool.

Eh, but if only they would put a number pad on their keyboard.

Originally I thought it was a good thing not to have the number pad on the wireless keyboard. Great for leaning back in your chair and whatnot. However...it's too small without it! It's too short to go across my legs and too unbalanced on one leg. They should have just made a wireless version of the wired keyboard. I'm not saying the smaller BT keyboard isn't cool - I love mine - but it's not as practical as it could be. They don't have any real HTPC stuff out either, so it doesn't really have a place in your living room unless you're using a Mac Mini or something for Front Row.

You can program the 2nd button to do whatever you like in the Keyboard & Mouse pref pane.
I use a Kensington Mouse-In-A-Box Pro Optical at work, so the Mouseworks pref pane is where I set mine.

On the new (Made in the last 2 years) Mac laptops, you can do the following for a right click
Place 2 fingers on the trackpad and click the trackpad button
Tap 2 fingers on the trackpad
Place 1 finger on the trackpad, hold control, and click the trackpad button
With the cursor over your target, press and hold the trackpad button (does not always work)
Plug in just about any freaking USB mouse ever made, and press the right mouse button

On the new (Made in the last 2 years) Mac desktops you can do the following for a right click
Tell the Mighty Mouse to give you a right click, and then right click
Hold control and click
Click and hold
Plug in any freaking USB mouse and right click

Right clicking does exactly what you think it does. It does exactly what it does in Windows.
