Anybody know how I go about getting the other 'double' option? I.e. 2 sites for the price of one? I didn't see any way to do that and I want to get it set up before I've had the double on a single site too long.

If you have any specific questions which are not answered on Dixiesys.com's website I would suggest contacting their sales department either via phone or e-mail or post a thread in their forums (please be specific with your questions).

I have a personal website hosted with Dixiesys.com and have used the webmail several times. Since I prefer to keep all my e-mail in Outlook Express I only use the webmail to read incoming mail and never send mail through it. It's worked every time I have used it and has a nice clean easy to use interface, the URL is really easy also it's www.yourdomain.com/webmail/

(standing up) Hi my name is stingygrrl and I'm a cyberwings refugee (sitting down) ... they should have special packages just for us...
anyways, is this where people are migrating their sites to? those of you who have, are you happy?, is the uptime good?, etc etc..

and what's teh difference between IMAP and POP email?

THANKS!!!

I don't know what IMAP stands for.

However, POP is what allows your mail to be held on the server when your not connected. I.e. when the mail can't reach its final destination (the mailbox on your home computer), POP is the technology that allows for it to be stored, waiting for you to connect to the server and get it, as opposed to sending it back as undeliverable.

Somebody else will have to handle IMAP

And yes, as far as I can tell the webmail address is webmail.yourdomain.com

And yes, I'm pleased so far, as I really needed a reliable pop3 service, and wanted a low key webpage.

I've been a customer of dixie since february and never had any problem with the server uptime, email server (IMAP) and the service/support from Gary and his team. I talked to him yesterday on the phone before decided to make an upgrade to a reseller program. All i can say is that dixie is highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable webhosting service with a smile.

Thanks to Gary and the team at dixie for making it possible to us to experience this level of professional services.

I wonder when you get the double deal (either two for one, or double space and bandwidth), do the "free" extras last as long as you hold the account, or does the price go up after a year?

Someone asked this before. (Can't remember if it was on Dixiesys forums or here)
Anyway the answer is, they last as long as you have the account.

... not exactly Gary's fault, he moved and the fragmented phone system here in the US didn't allow him to move the 1-800 number, nor would the carrier enable some forwarding/message, he said on IRC. But he could update the web page...

I would also say that Dixiesys is a good deal. Gary was a little slow in provisioning my account but the hosting seems very reliable and from all I have heard a class operation.

Dixiesys is far superior to that Mickey Mouse operation called Cyberwings. I saw in another forum where Cyberwings was offering more bandwidth and more free months to all existing customes. I have to laugh as he could not even keep his promises for the bandwidth he originaly sold. His servers have been held because he didn't pay the bill and now he offers more. Only a fool would remain loyal to them!

yeah, i read on the dixiesys forums that the server's been down since yesterday and that there's no 800# working. I confirmed that by trying to call.
i haven't done a count but my impression is that just about every post by kamazon is recommending webulux. which is fine, but if you have an affiliation, i would like to know.

i need cheap reliable hosting to primarily be for email. anyone else?

I know where you post a request and web hosting companies tell you what they have to offer. Register for the WebHostingTalk.com forums and post a Webhosting Request, please make your request specific (website space, bandwidth per month, how much you're willing to pay, etc.) Adul followed my advice and did this, he received 17 replies within hours of placing his request.

If you do get some affordable web hosting offers please let us know!

2) Funny how that 2-3 day downtime thread is 400 posts long, which you seem to be fairly active in? After reading that thread I'm not surprised that the Cyberwings site is down, and it appears Cyberwings is more than likely going out of business (atleast in its present/previous state).

I believed you missed Brasscat's which indicates a tongue firmly in cheek, more commonly known as sarcasm.

hehe...

What I should have done is join DixieSys and run screaming from CyberWings, but I'm not that bright. At least I got my $5 out of CW.

Great deal [edit] I have a feeling DixieSys will make me a very happy customer.

I signed up yesterday and still don't have my welcome email. how long did it take you guys? I already submitted a help ticket a couple hours ago.
I've seen some people saying they got their email in a few hours!?

I placed my webhosting order (small site, doubled to med. site) yesterday afternoon as well (dont' remember exactly when) and got my All Set! email just before I had to leave work (around 5:30pm). I had also registered my domain name through them the day before.

It was pretty easy to set up my index webpage - just followed the instructions in the email, and it was up & running no problem. Also very easy to set up email accounts.

Hopefully Gary will get to it today for you. Good luck.

I signed up around 10:00AM yesterday and got my "all set" email at 9:00PM last nite. Not bad at all. Let's hope the service and support remains good. I'm sure his business is growing rapidly with the flood of cyberwings refugees and the exposure he's gotten in these forums the last few weeks.

i finally got my setup email yesterday afternoon. it went to a typo'd email address so after some help tickets they resent it. not sure if i entered it wrong on the payment form (doubt it) or they did when they set me up.
regardless, i got my emails and changed the nameservers at godaddy, and i'm waiting for the dns to propogate. mostly it will be used for email. I think using IRC is the best way to get fast answers.

i just registered my domain name for 2 yrs from Namecheap.com (thanks to rossman for mentioning it or else i would have gone with godaddy). i'll be going with dixiesys small site 400meg storage and 6000MB transfers/month.

i do have a few questions if someone could answer. is email sent/recieved considered part of the 6000MB transfers/month and part of the 400meg storage?

more related to namecheap, but what's the absolute minimum i need for contact info for whois? i'd like to modify it so that it displays as little personal information as possible. thanks

sorry for the newbie questions..
