oops, sorry about the blank post.

Dakata24 - You have to put some value in for the fields but the info is really for reference only. In mine I put a bogus address and phone number and just used my real name, city, and state. I totally agree, I don't want my real address out there for just anyone to see.

I signed up for Dixiesys yesterday and had my setup e-mails in 7 hours. Changed my DNS settings at namecheap last night and looks like it is already propagated this morning. Now to upload my web site tonight.

For those of you wanting to upload your files or view your website while your DNS propogates...you can do so without waiting.

Read this thread here at dixiesys forums - it explains how to get around DNS and upload your files immediately.

Ok guys I need some help here, I just registered my domain with namecheap.com , this is my first time doing this and I am just having some fun so don't laugh , on Dixiesys sing up form the first line asks for the domain name, is there where I put the name that I registered right?

Another line ask for Username2 (for FTP): can we use the same one as in the one above that one?

Well the following are the ones that I have doubt, can someone help me out with them please, don't laugh too hard

ANYBODY INTERESTED IN $1/MONTH HOSTING AND EMAILS, EMAIL ME AT MY EMAIL

i just need a cheap emails and small site, so i really don't need that as much space as $3.95 medium website. need 8 more. $1 will get you 2 domain, 80mb storage, 1.2gb transfer, and unlimited emails.

lmk.

ps. this is much cheaper than hotmail and yahoo. they charge $19.99/year for pop3 account, and that 30% off already. this is a much better deal $8.95/domain name + $12/web hosting = $20.95.

I was a noob a few months ago too... so I'm only snickerin at ya!!
domain name: yes the name you registerd. examples of well known domain names:

anandtech.com
yahoo.com
hotmail.com

I used the same username and password for both. (i know but i'm slow witted and can't have too many floating around! )

Also you can enter a 2d domain name in that list- that's for the 2 for 1 special. I guess if you want double the deal on only 1 domain you leave that blank. In my case, my friend and I are doing that deal, so we're each getting the regular hosting specs for $20/yr. ie $10 each/year.

Ok, my patience with that liar at cyberwings has long since worn off to the point of spending more money on hosting [I'm just too darn frugal]

Have those of you that signed up with Dixiesys been satisfied with the service?

The service at Dixiesys is top notch and their forums rule! Most of the time it is the admins answering your problems in the forums and they don't give up until they find a solution

I use their IRC channel for instant help (only had to do that with some setup questions).
So far (<1 week for me)- it's been just fine.

Hehe, I had my all set email after only a few hours, but it took like 24 hours to propagate....thats up to the DNS server though, not anyone else.

Anyway, it seems like a good deal, check me out at www.yobz.com

Quick question for the pros, can you switch domain names if you paid for a full year during that time? That sentence was probably incoherent. If I sign up for a year, am I stuck with the same domain name when I sign up with the webhosting?

Dixiesys is great - fast servers, and IMAP service available for Email. I'm not aware of another low cost hoster that provides an IMAP service for email, which is great if you access email from multiple servers. It's a great value for 3.95.

Thanks,
Frob

You can switch, you can even do it yourself, I think. Otherwise just create a trouble ticket and they will take care of it. Been there, done that.

Thanks, Nostrada.

Time to think of a good domain name now. I pay 36k a year for college and all they can give me is 5mb webspace. How sad. My ISP gives me 10mb x 5 accts= 50mb

I signed up with Dixiesys at the beginning of the year when I saw the original thread about 3-95.com. I was set up the very next morning, and the server I'm on (server 2) has been flawless since then. My relatively quiet site pulls about 3-4GB/month and two separate forums are being run on it, and there have been no problems at all. Performance has never been an issue, downtime has never been an issue, and support tickets have usually been replied to in a matter of hours.

I found the webmail really helpful as it allowed me to use my same normal email address while I was on vacation in Japan and Vietnam this past month. Didn't have to resort to Hotmail/Yahoo or anything like that.

All in all, I've gotten more than my money's worth. (and no I don't work for them and am not affiliated with them in any way)

Thanks.

Correction: you had several sites hosted with Cyberwings. I hope you have backups of your sites....

If so, the first thing you'll need to do is
sign up with Dixiesys. You can enter domain names that already exist with CW, no problem. You should get an "All set!" email from Dixiesys in a few hours. You can then begin to upload the files to the address indicated in the emails (i.e. ftp://ftpxx.dixiesys.com). In the meantime, you have to tell the registrar (i.e. GoDaddy, Network Solutions) for your domain names the new nameservers for your domains. If you have a 21st century registrar like GoDaddy, the whole process will take a very short time. If you're with a dinosaur like NS (I hate them...) it may take a few days and a few ridiculously confusing email exchanges.

Once the nameserver change propogates through the Internet, all users, emails, etc. will begin coming to your new Dixiesys account. I had one CW domain that was registered through GoDaddy and it was up less than 24 hours after signing up with DS. My Network Solutions domain is still pending after 72 hours....I've also requested to transfer registrars to GoDaddy.

Thank you, I just went GoDaddy trying to login, but all failed. I tried customer number, first, last name, e-mail, domain name,... all failed. I even inputted my domain name registered through cyberwings. It couldn't find it.
My problem is I can't get into GoDaddy in any way.
Thanks again. I really hate cyberwings!!!

How long does it takes to get the "All set!" email from them? I sing up yesterday afternoon and I haven't gotten yet! Anyone knows if the email could take more than one day or maybe two?

and what webmail script is everyone using? after installing squirrelmail (took like 5 min thanks to mike's nice step by step guide) i went and took a look at the latest version of IMP.. very nice i must say.. a very big improvement over the preinstalled one at webmail.yourdomain.com .
