Thanks man, going there in a few weeks for vacation. It will be the furthest west I have ever been, anything that is a must see when I'm out this way?

Cirque de Soleil shows are fascinating, O and Mystere, in that order.

If you club, C2K in venitian (most honeys you will ever see in your life, lots of fake you know what, and it is great!). if you are into Hip Hop, House of Blues in the Mandalay Bay on Sundays is poppin. Free club is Club 7 right on the strip, the west side of the street. Tip the door guy if the line is long, to get in.

I'm all about Studio 54 at MGM for the clubbing college scene...

AMDSkip, you may want to check out the Grand Canyon, or the Hoover Dam. The dam tours are pretty dam fun. dam helicopters fly over all the time. Those are good dam fun as well....sorry, couldn't resist.

Definately catch the best free show in Las Vegas- the fountains of Bellagio. If you have your walking shoes on, try to see the Camelot Merlin show, Fountains of Bellagio, Volcano at Mirage, and Treasure Island consecutively. They are all free shows runing about every half hour for free.

I love Vegas.

Yes while in Vegas goto the Hoover Dam and take a tour, it is an incredible monument.

If you have never been to the Grand Canyon it would be a good time to do that as well, be prepared for 2 days at the canyon.

As far as what's to see in Vegas there is too much to list, but a few highlights are:

-Downtown (there is a free show every hour outside on the canopy)

-Treasure Island Pirate Battle (at night)

-Mirage volcano erupting

-Spend some time just wandering around the Bellagio (incredible eye candy)

-Olympic Gardens (for male oriented entertainment) Over 18 Only Plz

-The shark reef @ Mandalay Bay

-White tigers and dolphins @ the Mirage

-Save us both some time look here

He-He... Last poster snuck in whlie I replying...

The (free) Bellagio fountains run on every quarter hour. A hot deal! Cirque du Soleil is too damned expensive. Not a hot deal.

Penn and Teller is over.
The Benihana/Star Trek one is only valid if you stay at their hotel.
Others look open.

Do all Las Vegas casinos permit indoor smoking? I've been thinking about touring LV for a while now.

My recent visit to the video slots casino at Charleston, WV racetrack was a little unpleasant because of the bad air.

My wife and I received a free ($108 taxes/fees) roundtrip airfare/hotel trip to Las Vegas for participating in a 90 minute TrendWest timeshare speel.

Here's what our week looks like:
Tue 8/13 - Depart Portland, OR arrive in LV, get situated in hotel room, wander around LV.
Wed 8/14 - Do as much as possible in LV.
Thu 8/15 - Supposed to fly back to Portland, OR but we can pay more and stay in LV longer which is what we'll probably do.

Should we extend our stay until, Fri, Sat or Sun? I think it's going to depend on how much the additional hotel/air/taxes/fees are going to cost.

Would it be feasible to rent a car for 2 days and see Hoover Dam and almost all of the Grand Canyon?

I'm thinking of extending our trip until Saturday (departing that afternoon would be ideal). If we leave Saturday then we'll probably rent the car Thursday. I heard the drive from LV to Grand Canyon is about 8 hours?

Are you serious, it's 8 hours! It doesn't seems to be 8 hours on the map, looks like 4 hours to me.
Must be the twist and turns and mandate speed zone that drive up the hours.
Can anyone confirm this?

If it is 8 hours, it really alter our vacation plans!

I really want to see the granduer of Grand Canyon and it is one of my must do list!

Has anyone went there from las vegas and confirm the hours?
Can anyone give us advises about going and being in Grand Canyon?

Rossman, I would definitely stay longer. My g/f and I are going at the end of June and we got round trip and hotel for 7 nights for under $1000. $600 of that is the airfare, so in your case you have the expensive part paid for already. There is so much to see and do there that you'll be sorry to leave after one 2 nights.

I have a wagerworks account with over 20,000 points. I've been collecting for the longest time now but don't have time to use these points. Check out www.wagerworks.com. If you're interested in buying um, email me suprawraith@yahoo.com.. with 20,000 points you could get 2 tix to EFX, or 4-5 free buffets at places like bellagio.

james88 - According to Mapquest it's a 6 hour 46 minute drive from the Las Vegas airport to the Grand Canyon.

I'm thinking about signing up for a tour instead, I've searched Google.com for GRAND CANYON TOURS and found dozens of websites which offer packages but I'm not sure which are good and which suck. A few of them had packages for $189 for 2 people which sounds reasonable.

We'd like a package which offers:
air conditioned coach bus
stops off at the Hoover Dam for a few hours
1 or 2 night stay at the Grand Canyon
bus trip back to Las Vegas

If we can find all that for $250 or less including taxes then I might do that route instead of renting a car/hotel.

Stationed here in Vegas

Will try to answer some of the questions.

Boulder Dam is about 45 minutes frm downtown.
4-5 hours to the south rim of the canyon - Arizona side.
You do not want to run the access roads at night.

All casinos have smoking. There are some non-smoking sections though.

Vegas Valley is a decent web site and there are others - search engine.

Shows will run you from $20 on up. Example: Bill Cosby is in town the end of May for 1 night. $160+ for tickets and you are off to the side and can not even see his facial expressions (distance)

There are casinos on the strip, off the strip and where many locals go.
You can contact each casino on buffet tickets. Also, if you are playing the table games and front up some $$$. Play conservatively for 30minutes to 1 hours and ask the pit boss for comps.

Most buffets (non-specials or fancy casinos) will run between $6-$15.

Temps right now are in the 60's at night and mid-high 80's daytime.

You can blow 1-2 days just looking at all the sights along the strip and inside each casino. You feet will hate you even if you bring comfortable shoes.

There are many places which have a booth setup that offer shows or buffets tickets for free to listen to a time share or real-estate pitch.
As long as you are willing to spend 45min-1 hour listening to the speal and can say NO, you can almost eat free every day.
The promoters have only a limited selection of shows, however, you can easily negotiate at show & food package in exchange for your time.

Room costs range from $29-$69 night except on Fri/Sat - That is when the suckers come in.

There are coasters in town (Sahara/Stratosphere/NY/Circus) and one about 30 min away in Prim.

Eagle,

thanks for the info. Are Boulder damn and Hoover damn one and the same? I think they are if my Discovery Channel memory serves me correctly

Since you're a native, do you have suggestions on "must see things in Vegas"? Or any other Hot Deals that the locals use that that tourists normally miss?

Thanks.

Hoover and Boulder Dams are one and the same.
The dam is located outside of Boulder City.

<< Must see >>

depends on your perspective.

There is some interesting physical parks, etc nearby.
Death Valley is a day trip.

Not really a native, just transfered in a year ago.
Wife and myself go out 2-3 times per week.

Depending on your gaming habits, some casinos will provide you with specials.
Sams on Fridays has a good seafood buffet. Earn 300 points at the slots and walk in Fri that night.

Most newer casinos have theatres attached. Prices are the same as outside.

How did you get nailed for $600 airfare or is that for two.
30 days advance (non-holiday) should be about $200-250 max R/T per person.

Provide additional guidance and I can ask others who have 5-15 years here.
