2 Fram Oil Filters at Kragen for $6

Owners manual for my 2003 Jetta TDI calls for 10,000 mile intervals on regular oil... Before I traded the 1998 TDI in on a 2003 I went 107K miles on the same OEM filter and 5 querts of Mobil1.

The only oil releated engine failure is the LACK of oil. The fact remains, change the oil and filter, regardless of brand, on regular intervals and you will be OK. The rest is way too subjective to accurately test.

I have a Ford Taurus 3.0 engine that I used Mobil 1 in it for two stints of 50,000 miles each but changed the filter every 5,000. It now has 130,000 miles on it and uses about 1/2 quart of oil very 3,000 miles.

The idea is that Mobil 1 does not break down like ordinary oil but of course the oil gets dirty...so change the filter regularly.

I think that they intend for it not to break down like regular oil, but not to this extreme. Both of these cases are borderline abuse. Ziptars 107k on a 1998 without a change, that is not impressive. Password soes not mention the year, but I bet that it is the same. Time and starts and stops are the enemy of oil and engines, a car can run a long time without stopping. If you run the average 12k to 15k, you better change more often than that. It is surprising just how long a car will run without oil.
