People are generally stupid, giving them potent tools will only make more work for the IS people that have to clean up after them. That's not to say non-technical people can't be creative with computers and have good ideas, but the majority of them get a wild idea and run off on their own to do it all without consulting anyone knowledgable, if they would the knowledgable person could tell them why it's a bad idea, that someelse has already done it, that it's eay and a good idea, etc and save everyone a lot of time and trouble.

Absolutely........It means that most people have the initiative to do something productive..Provide them the means to be part of the solution. Otherwise, there just a tool ,left to implement someone elses ideas.

Personally, I agree.

I think that the vast majority of people in the workforce want to do a quality job. If employers give employees the tools to do a good job, and recognize these employees when the DO do a good job, the employer gets his money worth from the employees.

Take the same employee and put him in a limiting work environment where he's micromanaged and second-guessed, and he quickly loses enthusiasm and becomes another zombie worker.

This is one area in which MS has excelled. Just look at their results.

Not sure that this is highly technical, tho.

The problem is too many of those employees don't know how to use the tools given to them and a good bit of them don't want to learn, they believe that computers are a panacea that will do most of the work for them, which is partly true but only if the operator has the knowledge to make it do the work.

It would be really nice if they started issuing computer licenses like driving ones, the type of license would give a rough estimate of you're abilities so you're potential employer would have an idea where you would fit in and what kind of training you would need to run with everyone else. Sort of like how you need certain class licenses to drive trucks and motor cycles. But I think I'm starting to ramble =)

This is one area in which MS has excelled. Just look at their results.

In the marketing and legal departments maybe, but their software is definately lacking in many things, most notably security. MS has the potential to become a really good software company, which is kind of unnerving considering how badly I dislike their corporate practices.
