I have two internal hard disks. First one is a SATA 640GB WD that has Windows XP and the second is a 160GB hard PATA disk that I've used for backups.

I wiped it clean and then installed Windows 7 on it as part of a dual boot system and I've run into 2 problems.

1) At post I now get a 1-2 minute pause while displaying "Initializing USB controller". It eventually moves on and gets me into windows 7. Usb devices seem to be functioning fine with no ! in the device manager.

2) In XP I can see both drives. The 640GB shows up as a "C:" drive and contains XP. The 160GB drive shows up as n "E:" drive just like it did previously. But when I boot to Windows 7 the only drive I can see is the 160GB drive labeled "C:". I'd like to be able to access my MP3's, documents, etc from the 640GB drive. Why does it not show up?

What's your hardware? Sounds like a USB controller on your MB that Windows 7 isn't supporting yet or has a bug in its driver stack for. Might be good to report to MS.

I'm using a Foxconn A7GM+S AM2+ board with an Athlon X2 6000+ 4GB.

I performed your instructions and it does allow me to access the data. However it still is not acting quite the way I'd like it. If I try to rename a file or move it to another subfolder it tells me that I need to have the administrators permission.

Is there a way I can use the drive just like a normal drive without all of the permission issues.

I've got two user accounts on this PC. Mine (which is set to administrator) and my wifes who is a normal user.
