Thx OP. Snatched two Acer at Baileycrossroad, VA. There are still 1 Acer and 2 Compaq as I left....

I think the extra gig and extra features makes up for the $100 difference.

According to FW and SD, the Compaq C714NR will be $449.99 in some areas (already confirmed in Ohio and Texas), and $399.99 in other areas (NJ, NY, SoCal).

The Acer was just onsale 2 weeks ago at $549.99. Got one then. Looks like it's pricematch time on Sunday.
With the exception of a few update problems (blue screen when updating drivers: problem fixed when I shut down Norton) it runs very well.
Been very pleased with it.

should I go to my local best buy and buy one of the Acer's tomorrow if possible? been looking for a cheap laptop, and I think the slight spec difference and size make up for the difference in cost compared to the compaq. and, anyone know if Ohio is going to be different when it comes to the Acer model as well, or is 499 expected for that model too?

Hopefully you don't live in a region that has the higher of the two.

I would check FW/SD and search "C714NR"; there are threads with people reporting actual confirmed prices from their region.

boo. well that pretty much guarantees the Acer I just bought is gonna be 550. Oh well. Why is Ohio being regionally priced? So weird. But yea, it's confirmed for a couple cities in Ohio already that the Compaq will be 449, so the Acer will follow suit.
