2 microphones one jack

Ok, here's what I want to do. I have a sennheiser pc 166 usb headset. I would like to run a splitter on the microphone side so that I can plug my iphone into the mic feed as well as my regular mic. What I want to do is be able to play sound effects from my mic occasionally through the iphone via that feed into ventrillo so others can hear. I'll never use the headset mic and iphone sound at the same time, could I use just a regular stereo y splitter to achieve this, anyone see any problems with this? Thanks!

What you really need is an A/B switch/module so that it is always one or the other. Both open at once can be bad.

Two devices on the line change the impedance. A little confused about the iphone though. You said "play effects FROM the mic through the iphone". Presumably the earphone out of the iphone will be an input to the splitter. If so I doubt that this will work as that will effectively be a short circuit to the mic going into the other branch of the splitter. Mics are very low millivolt devices and require an input impedance of at least several thousand ohms I would think.

Basically I have a soundboard app on my iphone, and I want to be able to play that through the in game mic. Such as in ventrilo or inside a game. I would toggle the mic activation then play the sound through the iphone. But obviously I still want to be able to use my mic. Guess I'll go look for a switch.

Im presuming an analog circuit (so the USB headphone portion has me vexed/confused).

Even if it does work, your gonna have fun getting the balance for the two inputs set up. Normally what is done is to use a Radio Shack audio mixer console into which all the player media devices plug in. The console has slider controls for balancing or setting the different device levels relative to each other. The console then presents one preamplified mixed/integrated signal as an output which is the input to the desired recording unit.

A possibility is to plug the headset's mic into the iphone (if that is possible) & use the iphone as a pass thru (or even a preamp) for the mic. The iphone is switched or played appropriately when it's media are needed. In this way, no splitter may be required.

It's more for vent than anything else, I'm not a fan of in game spam either. Can someone point me to what I need at radioshack? I looked on their site and couldn't find any 3.5mm switches.

You probably will need to use connector adapters - as most of the switches are erquipped with "F" (video) connectors.
