1) Is there any distro which is fully compatible with sis 730 chipset?(integrated audio/video/lan) One which will recognise/configure everything out of the box?
2) Is there any application like corel draw?
Thanks

I don't know about the chipset thing, at least I don't know about out of the box. I do know that you can make it work.

As for the drawing thing, there are at least 2 or 3 programs, I can' recall their names. The one I remember more was from KDE, kvivo or something... or am I mistaking that with the Visio clone...

(I guess I didn't really reply did I...)

Most (if not all) distro's will recognize just about everything out of the box unless its some really arcane piece of hardware.

As for Corel Draw, the closest thing would probably be the gimp. It's basically open-source Photoshop.

Gimp is amazing. Has all the power of photoshop but its free. Wouldnt the world be better if it were all free. Would stop people from having to Pirate.

They would find a way to pirate

Anyhow GIMP is fine for most home users but may not be advanced enough for pro users.

I paid $100 for Paint Shop Pro then turned around and installed Linux to find out Gimp will do almost everything Paint Shop Pro will.

GIMP should do alot more than PSP. the GIMP is really powerful, but after becoming accustomed to photoshop, i find it a bit more difficult to work in.

I have to say, gimp is the best. You can do just about anything and if it seems impossible, you can develope a plugin to do it, many times with the help of other gimp enthusiasts.

Corel had a version of wordperfect and corel-draw adn phot-paint all for linux. They even developed their own linux distro at one point. It looks like they have sold just about everything that they had that involved linux, and they have seemed to have discontinued Corel-Draw and the others. You might be able to buy the software, and license from someone.

Another great option is Star Office, from Sun Microsystems (www.sun.com)/ It is an office suite very similar to microsoft office applications, but it runs on many paltforms, the files are compatible with microsoft and it is better. Oh, the best part, it is FREE! It comes with a word processor, spreadsheet, databases, and many other features, including a great drawing program. This is a drawing program is not like a photoshop program that is mainly for touching up photos. It is one where you can draw shapes and lines and free-hand with the mouse. It sounds like this is what you are looking for. Either way, the Star Office Suite is a must have for all linux and unix users. If windows users were smart they would take it as a free download as opposed to buying or stealing the microsoft crap.
