So I was just going to wait until the 12 weeks is up to report my progress, but I'm excited, and I don't really have anybody else to tell who would care really, so a group of strangers will have to do .

Today I weighed in at 164.2 lbs. Down from 245 lbs. at my max, and down from 235 lbs. since June 2011. Most of that weight loss occured from fixing my diet and by doing compound body weight excercises. Eventually I got a bench and some adjustable weights and started doing various presses and lifts.

Two weeks ago today I started SL5x5. I started all exercises with just the bar, except for the bench press; my upper body strength was much greater than that of my lower body, as that is what I'd been focusing on (I didn't like doing dumbbell squats). This was a mistake, as squatting and deadlifting are my favourite excercises now! The other changes I made was to start doing all five exercises each day (I started that just this week), instead of having a workout A and B (I know this will have to change once the squats and deadlifts become heavier), and I'm doing 5x5 deadlifts, instead of 1x5. Here is my progress as of today:

Squat - 5x5x100 lbs.

Overhead press - 5x5x70lbs.

Barbell row - 5x5x105 lbs.
(I accidentally increased this too much one work out, but I completed it, so I increased from that weight next work out)

Bench press - 5x5x135lbs.

Deadlift - 5x5x135lbs.

Now, I am excited about the progress I've been making, but what excites me more is how different I feel during the day. I get euphoric. Waves of pleasure. My head is clearer. I have more energy. I'm not as tired. I get to sleep easier. I wake up easier. Too me, so far, the mental improvements are bigger than the physical ones.

Also, and you guys'll probably shit on me about this, I'm a pothead. Not the ounce a week kid I was 5 years ago, but I still go through 1/4 oz. in a week. The last two weeks since I've been lifting I've went through half that still. I'm so used to being high before doing anything. Finally! FINALLY I've found something where I don't want to be high while I'm doing it: LIFTING WEIGHTS. This is SUCH a good feeling.

I only have one regret: that I didn't start SL5x5 when I started fixing my diet. A workout that includes back and legs is such a totally different feeling at the end of it.

I could go on, but I'm having trouble describing the way I'm feeling with words, as I can't remember ever feeling this way. I'm in the best shape of my life, and while that's not saying much yet, it's only going to get better from here.

I also want to add that the progress I've made in the last weeks on the lifts, I've still been cutting at between 2100-2400 calories per day, 60% fat, 35% protein, 5% carbs. I can't wait to see what kind of progress I can make when I start consuming more calories!!

Congrats on the progress, especially the weight loss!

Please take no offense to what I'm about to post. My only intention is to help.

If you haven't already, have a look at this thread from BB

This calculator could make your life a little easier (I skipped the recommendations it gives and just stuck with the BMR calculation).

Tons of useful nutrition information consolidated into this thread as well

I'm well aware of those threads; I've been reading. I take no offense, but my weight loss journey started purely with nutrition. I know most of that stuff like the back of my hand. I'm going to assume you're providing me with that information because of my 60/35/5 comment regarding my diet, so I'll provide you with a link of my own.

A guide to ketosis

This is the diet I'll be using to cut for the next 6 weeks. Afterward, I'll balance the macros again and increase my caloric intake to increase lean mass. I've never been lean, and when people see me now they describe me using words like fit, and lean. This has been working for me, and so I will continue to use it until my BF% is where I want it to be.

Wow, I thought that I was low on carbs. For me, I typically have about 10-25% of my calories from carbs depending if its a lifting day or not. Looks like you've done your research but have you considered cycling your carbs? I got much better results and put on some lean mass when I added in a sweet potato on workout days.

No doubt your approach will work for cutting body fat, though, if that's your primary goal. The reason that I had to reintroduce carbs was because I was getting way too thin.

I'll have to try adding these into my routine, but besides modifying them a bit to try and work resistance cables into play instead of free weights, I won't really much out of this until I have both the space and money to get the full gym setup that I want in the future.

Definitely getting bookmarked so I can get to these proper as soon as I can.

And nice progress on everything!

Keep it up man!

I started about 8 or 9 months ago and am really glad I stuck with it. Put on about 25 pounds of muscle mass (up from 140), and love doing squats and deadlifts now. Like you, I was able to do all the exercises each day for a while; I don't remember when I stopped and started doing A and B workouts but probably somewhere around 135lb squats.

Congrats opn the progress.

You will learn over time when your body is doing proper form and not doing proper form. Look for the rippetoe videos! They are priceless. They tell you in good detail how to do squats, deads, bench, overhead press all with proper form.

Hope you like squats and deadlifts alot because it doesn't get easier

Deadlifted my body weight today: 165lbs. This is not a lot of weight, but it's the first time I've ever lifted my body weight with any kind of lift at all. My first set of squats under work weight felt weird, and I almost lost my balance and fell backwards with a 105 lbs. on my back, but I managed to gain my balance back. For the rest of the squats I concentrated on keeping my knees and ass out, and I managed to lift the weights with no problems. I had to increase my weight time between sets to 2 minutes in order to complete the fifth rep on each set though. Other than that, I'm kind of lifting my upper body up a bit too much in order to help me get my barbell rows up. I'm going to deload on Saturday and start over.

Also, today is my second day marijuana free. I'm making a concious effort to not smoke until at least July 1 - about 5 weeks. I want to finish my cut, and finally be rid of this little remaining belly fat and love handles, and the munchies I get after burning is going to ruin that total. Plus, who knows? If I can quit for five weeks I may just quit for good.

You guys may ask, "Still cutting at 165 lbs.?" Yes, I am. I wish that I had started SL5x5 a year ago when I got my nutrition in order, but I didn't, and while I'm not skinny fat, I want to get rid of the little bit of fat that's left. I've been at least chubby my entire life. If people want to call me "too skinny" for a few weeks until I start putting weight back on, that's fine by me.

Have a nice night everybody!
