I always thought its the amps that matter, not the volts. I know there's a correlation but you can have a low voltage high ampere shock that can still kill you, right?
Volts are needed to make charge flow through a resistance. You can think of voltage as a measure of how motivated the charge is to move. Amperage is a measure of how much charge passes a point during a certain time. Resistance is a measure of how much the material opposes the flow of charge.

Voltage = current * resistance

Current = voltage / resistance

Keep the resistance the same, and you'll get more current as you increase the voltage.
Reduce the resistance, such as by getting your skin wet, and the current will also increase.
* - water by itself isn't a good conductor of electricity. But introducing some contaminants to it, even in small amounts, makes it pretty conductive. Ground water will have plenty of trace minerals and other chemicals. Sweat is salty, which provides lots of available charge carriers.

Static: You can easily endure a static shock of thousands or tens of thousands of volts because the amount of motivated/high-voltage charge available is quite low. And you're a big bag of water, so you can also handle the heat of the electric arc.

Pardon me for expecting a solid vocabulary from people that write/edit for a living. This is ATOT, so I don't bust your chops for your apparent lack of concern for the correct use of the apostrophe. But I expect more from a professional.

sorry bro, but most mainstream reportings are trying to get your news to you first.

Lest you bitch about your local paper somehow being a whole 15 mins late with something happening 200+ miles from you.

Most online stories are not really editttttttttted.

i'd say she reached her full potential....get it?

seriously tho, if there's an emergency, you have to practice maximum awareness. quite often, heroics are best left to the professionals. if you find yourself within an electrified area, keep both feet together and hop away from the source of electricity - if you don't keep your feet together, the difference in potential across the 2 steps will kill you.

Stupid people do stupid things, even under the guise of trying to do something good.

It's a rescuer's first duty evaluate the situation, look for hazards to the rescuer FIRST, then for the victim, but to protect himself before attempting any rescue. (otherwise, the next batch of rescuers now has more victims to deal with)

sorry she died but damn.

Cool. Next time you are in a car accident, I hope people look for every hazardous obstacle that are very unlikely to happen first before rescuing you such as an energized pool of water. It doesn't matter if they leave you in your car injured, about to die, they need to look at every single possible scenario before they get close to your car.

"we've got 1 ZZZZAAAPP!!! whoa, make that 2 victims at the scene"

don't worry boomer, if i find you in a car accident i will approach with caution and not move you unless the car is on fire or you're gushing blood.

"my spinal cord feels weird...."
"well then, let's yank you out of that non-burning car! i'm helping, durrr!!!"

What type of response is this?

I HOPE they would leave me in a car injured if there are hazardous obstacles around and wait for the professionals to arrive. No need to risk their lives to save me. This is tragic but it was really a stupid mistake.

Ignorant and emotional response.

there is no reason for someone to hurt me more or them get killed doing something that slows down help.

when you come on a accident you need to look at the situation and if dangerous wait for people with correct gear to help.

This lady ran into a situation where a light pole was knocked down and the area was flooded. she lacked common sense and got herself and others hurt.

ok, so you come up on an accident and you dont see the electrical wires underneath the car because theyre underneath the car. you cant really tell if thats a streetlight laying on the ground. none of this is even going through your mind as your focused on the victims.

thats why electricity kills. you cant see it. you dont hear it. the INSTANT that you know its there, YOUR DEAD already.

its scary stuff. and while yes, you have to pay attention, this is something that could happen to any of us!

They are probably picturing sparks and glowing like in movies/games.

no.

but seeing a downed light pole and water? really you don't need 160 IQ to figure it out

i think the point here is that even if you look for potential threats, there might be fatal ones hidden and shit just happens. i do not know what this specific case was, but i dont like that everyone is so quick to blame the women who died for being idiots.

also, i have been in a serious car accident. when it was that moment to remove my friend from the car, i did not think twice about her possible broken neck. thought about it once, then thought the car might catch fire any moment, so i ran around the car and pulled her out. thank god everything turned out ok.
