it really depends on how many forms you need. they charge you a lot for every little schedule you fill out, so it piles up really fast. if your stuff is simple, do it yourself on paper or online. if it's complicated, ask friends for referrals to a CPA they've used. usually comes out cheaper than going to H&R, and those experienced independent CPA's that work out of their home know a lot more than a lot of those people at H&R. they just input your data into the H&R software and charge you an arm and a leg for it. better off spending $25 buying taxcut at the store or $25 filing online with turbotax.
my one and only time with H&R cost me over $200. did the taxes myself the following year using their example for $25 online at turbotax. this year I went to a CPA recommended by friends at work. for $75, he got me an extra $1100 above what I was seeing on turbotax. hot deal?
