Careful there...no VGA inputs, and you won't get a decent picture unless you use some sort of DVI-out to component adapter.

Also, don't LCD TVs use screens with notoriously bad response times?

I agree, when I have to read text on a TV, I have to use super-high-contrast Grandma mode. Even then I break down and use the Magnifyer. If you mean for movies, then go for it.

You need to use the tv out to use this one as a pc monitor.
not a good idea since the resolution is too low.

not a hot deal, and it would suck as a monitor, you can find yourself a samsung 19" monitors for that price, and use direct dvi, instead of crap svideo

The max resolution out of s-video is 480p or 640x480. Not a very good resolution for computers these days.

edit: I just noticed this screen has HDTV component inputs also. If you use these combined with the ATI dvi to component out adapters which can be used on many newer ATI cards, you can get yourself the very decent resolution of 720p or 1280X720. However I don't see this being any cheaper than other dedicated to PC LCD's on the market.

go the other way, get a monitor and a tv-card for your computer, and watch tv on the monitor. I do that with a 15" lcd, and it works pretty good.

Let me note that S-Video runs interlaced, not progressive, and closer to 320-360 lines of resolution (still interlaced), and is a poor choice for any computer display outside of using it for video or imaging purposes (such as pictures, dvd's, etc).

.

actually it's 480i, if even that. not enough bandwidth on s-vid for a progressive signal.

As a few others have mentioned, it would work but look craptacular. Might be ok for video and games, but forget any type of text work.

Just use the SVIDEO out... That wouldn't work?

this really isnt much cheaper than a 20" normal LCD.

it also looks hideous.

an decent brand 18" LCD can be had for $450 easily now, and a tv tuner external box is maybe $80 (like the viewsonic or tatung ones). i'd much rather have that.

It has S-VIDEO in... Should be good. I am really contemplating buying this, and using it as a monitor.
Moneyshot: dude that rig is expensive. That kind of cash you can get a Sony (I just did), DELLS got great stuff, Planar's are very reasonable right now and Viewsonic has some killer deals on 18-20" all set with DVI in, Analog, Super, the works. I just spent the last month studying these. Check it out.
Look at all these friends you have here MONEYSHOT!
