This was taken from chubby wallet (credit goes to kudala99):
(didn't see any posts when I searched, so delete it if it's a repost)

It is printed in today's(10/19) LA times. 20 off 100 purchase in store coupon. Valid from 10/19-10/21
There are also four other coupons in the same ad
12 packs Peipsi or 7 up sodas 2 for $3 limit 2
Hersey's, Nestle or Mars fun size bag candy $0.99 limit 5
24 pack Budweiser or Coors (12 oz cans) or Miller (12 oz cans, MGD or lite) $9.99 limit 1
Free medium size pumpkin with 25 dollars purchase
Keep an eye out for today's newspaper, there are some decent coupons for Save-on, Ralphs, Vons, etc supermarket chains in there too. I guess the strike and picket line is really hurting their business.

There's a link in the chubby wallet thread to the LA times if you have missed it. I don't know if I'm allowed to post coupon links to a newspaper... but here it goes: LINK

ps. I know there's a strike going on so it's a YMMV if you're willing to cross the picket lines for this deal.

edit: If the link takes you to a Ralph's page , just switch to albertsons in the frame on the left hand side.

double edit: yea, dunno why the link just died...

triple edit:i got a screen capture of the coupon if the link is still dead... :|

quadruple edit: there are also 10 off 50$ for vons and various other deals at ralphs, I guess the supermarkets are trying to bring in the customers to break the picketers.

This thread has officially strayed off the topic of the coupon. Take it to our Politics & News forum.

hot deal. cross the picket lines--its time for everybody to feel the effects of a slumping economy. labor unions have spoiled these grocery clerks long enough.

You suck if you even consider using this. Crossing picket lines is definitely a sign of no class. Support working people trying to get fair compensation for their labor.

$12-17.00/hr for running a register is fair compensation for labor? Most places give $6.75-10/hr for that kinda work... at least in the rest of C.A..... maybe they just won't hire em back, stuff in a bunch of people at min. wage, and our food will be cheaper!

I think healthcare should be provided for those who pay taxes and work full time and I think these are hot deals so the picketers might just go into the store and buy these.

$20 an hour to run a register is more than fair with or without a strike. Besides, how many other part time employees do you know that get benefits?

<This is from KFI AM640>

This is The Offer Of Settlement Letter the Supermarket Worker Union does not want you to see. Hundreds of Grocery Workers have contacted KFI saying that they have never seen this proposal. It includes pay rates and all the health insurance information including co pays and deductible amounts. It is the actual proposal many union members on strike have never seen but are striking against

Contract Settlement Offer

http://negotiations.safeway.com/vons/offers_of_settlement.asp

All you people who support the strike I urge you to read it. It will open your eyes to what the UNION is doing!
You can always make printout of this and hand them to the strikers when they hand you one of their flyers

Has anyone tried this outside SoCal?

I am in SoFla, so "South" makes for a partial location match

I used to work at Krogers and got paid $5.15/hr and this was only 3 years ago. I don't have any sympathy for the ones getting paid $10+ for working at a grocery store unless you are a manager/supervisor. But regardless this is a good deal cause groceries are expensive.

I was just visiting LA last week when the strike broke. There is a lot of misunderstanding about how much the clerks earn, though it probably is a bit more than other areas. Understand that housing there is quite high, $1500 upward for a 2 bedroom apartment. The stores want a wage freeze, lower pay for new hires, plus take-aways for medical and retirement benefits. This is all part of the Repulican plan for Union busting that started in the Reagan era. They figure now that unemployment is high enough, they can find scab labor willing to destroy the unions. The markets claim that they cannot compete with the new Walmart Superstores that are moving in, but Walmart is the most notorious store in the US for mistreating its workers (see the book Nickled and Dimed). They also claim losses this year of 0.5% to 2%, but that's not so much considering the economy is in the dumps and people are eating a little lower on the hog. Other businesses have fared far worse. Finally, if you are in a low paying job, you are a victim of an unfair economy. Busting unions and creating more victims is just going to make matters worse for everyone.

Housing is not that high in LA (compared to Boston/NYC/Tokyo) unless you really have to live in a fully gated apt/condo with pools and courts etc... And I know of friends getting 3-4 bdrms for 1500$ which they could split... and other friends who rent part of their houses for less than 1k in Westwood.

If I'm unhappy with my work conditions, guess what I do? I find a job that treats me the way I think I should. The same thing should be said about union workers. If they don't like how Ralphs etc is treating them, find a new job. We all know they can't though, which is proof they are getting paid more than they are worth.

The complaint is basically over the stores wanting the workers to pay PART of the increase in medical care. Specifically, $15 a week for family coverage, while the store kicks in another 8% toward the cost of insurance.

These union workers don't know how good they already have it . I'm paying about 8x that amount for much worse coverage, and I have NO retirement, etc.

The union also lied to the workers, telling them they would have to pay 50% of all thier medical care, etc. They won't even post a copy of the contract offer on the union web site (wouldn't want the workers to see the truth)

The job market out here on the left coast is pretty bad. After the company I was working at shut down, I ended up taking a 40% pay cut, and I'm lucky I found a job at all.

Now if the store where demanding a 40% pay cut & demanding they pay $500 per month for family Med Ins, the union would have something to complain about.

Of course this all comes down to the cost of medical insurance.
The union supports the democrates out here, who keep passing new laws & mandates.
This leads to higher medical costs, and higher insurance, and then they complain about being asked to pay for it !!!!

I have no sympathy for them. It's unreasonable for anyone to expect to have 100% of their healthcare paid when costs are going up 25% per year.

I held out for a week hoping it would be resolved, but I needed food and wasn't about to try to find a non-union market. Funny thing was, there were a lot of other people shopping too. I think people are getting tired of these pampered unions demands. Especially in a sluggish economy when most folks are just happy to be working!

Hot deal!

Hot deal!

So the other supermarkets are non unionized (Trader Joes, Gelsons, Wholefoods, etc...)...

And the picketers want us to shop there?

Oh well in the end Walmart will just engulf everything... They are coming... Kinda sad Walmart is one big indicator of the US economy...

Yep, wallmart will be up to 40 stores in southern CA within the next 3 years. Safeway(Vons) is saying that if this strike holds up for very much longer they don't think they can compete even though they have over a 150 stores.

In an economy where Enron paid an average of $5.3 million to EACH of its 140 execs. and other companies steal even more from the workers pensions to give to themselves before dissolving, I have no sympathy for these giant supermarket chains. Alberson's LOCKED OUT the workers because they wouldn't take the cuts. This is where every one of us is headed unless we all take a stand.

I know that I will have a hard time talking many of you into this becase you still believe in the OLD American Dream. That was the one where honest hard work will get you somewhere. Success now is dependant on greed and cheating which the governement refuses to do anything to stop. It is hard to believe that these battles are fought with the simple decision to ignore a grocery coupon....but this is how wars are won.

Not to get too political, but most of the problems in this country can be tied to what the goverment is doing.

- Why do we have to get medical through our jobs ?
Because your employer can deduct the cost from his taxes, You can't, so your after tax cost is much higher. When you loose your job you loose your insurance. I'd rather be able to shop around & buy my own insurance at the best price/policy I can find, and write it off myself !

- Why did we have all these companies lying about thier profits & inflating thier stock prices ?
It's because changes in the tax law under Clinton. Companies could no longer deduct high salaries as an expense. This cause large companies to start paying the Execs with stock & other bonuses based on company performance (since this could be deducted). When a few corrupt Execs saw that they could make huge incomes by inflating profits/stocks, they took advantage of that, assuming they would be gone be the time the place fell apart.

- Why you we have to put money in a 401K or IRA to save for retirement ? Why do few companies have pensions any more ?
It's all due to how the the tax code has been changed over the years.

These laws never hurt the rich as intended. The rich have the money to avoid the changes in the tax law (just don't buy that 2nd house or that boat, don't cash in that stock this year, etc). They alway hurt the little guy who was going to build that boat, or that house, or needs to cash in the stock options he worked so hard for, to pay for his mothers operation.

As for the 2 major parties, I find it interesting that the Clinton Justice department never cracked down on any of these crooks (this corruption has been going on for years - could it be all the money Ken Lay donated to the Clintons ?). It wasn't until Bush was in office that they finally started arresting these crooks.
