Cant blame them for having free shipping. I can care less how they package the dvds as long as they arrive them brand new condition.

Okay, maybe I didn't make it clear enough.

Between DDD throwing the DVDs into a box without {bubble wrap, peanuts} and the post office throwing it in/out of trucks, anything larger than a single DVD will be banged up, and some discs may break off their spindles and get scratched in the case.

That was my whole point - you will end up with DVDs in non-new condition. It's not many, and it's random, but to me it was enough of an inconvience to seek out other vendors.

FWIW, I have never had a problem with DDD, and that is about 17-20 orders from them thru out the last few years.

I bought a DVD from them two years ago that arrived with a huge dent in the bubble envelope. It looked like the corner of a heavy crate had stabbed into the package. They replaced the DVD for me, but I can't remember if I had to pay shipping.

Anyways, I just ordered 4 DVDs from them: The Incredibles, Punch Drunk Love, Napoleon Dynamite, and Star Trek First Contact.

Damn you OP! My wallet can't take many more of these deals!

This is great! Was going to purchase some movies from Amazon. Not only was the regular price at DDD cheaper, but I got an additional 20% off. Way too tempting.

I finally swore off DDD after about two years of randomly damaged items. They always stood behind their items, but by the time I paid return shipping and the delay waiting for a replacement, I was better off going with a company that actually puts their DVDs in protective packaging as opposed to throwing them in a box. BestPrices.com and Amazon.com (direct, not marketplace) both are excellent when it comes to shipping quality.

It should be noted that I am:
A) Picky as hell when it comes to box quality, especially when it's a box set or other form of cardboard boxing
B) Likely to order $200-$300 at a time, and thus have large orders. I've never been disappointed in DDD when I've done a one-off order. They've got a great single-DVD packaging. It's just their large box packaging that sucks.
Ooo. Well, that might affect me. I've never ordered a lot from them at once but just did. I'll inspect the merchandise and guess I'll have to exchange any damaged goods. Hope they've remedied that problem, will see. It just can't pay for them to try to cut corners by not packaging disks properly.

I doubt they've "remedied the problem", as it was their SOP for at least two years. I ordered, conservatively, $3,000 worth of media from them over that two years, mostly in orders of 5 or more titles, usually one of which was a box of some sort, whether or not it was anime.

It was never more than 1 item per shipment which was damaged, but I would say 60% of my orders had one item damaged. If I argued enough with them on the phone, I could get them to cover return postage from the PO, but even with that it still wasn't worth my time to package up the DVD and mail it out via the PO, waiting for my replacement to arrive.

I would encourage everyone to at least look at BestPrices.com, their shipping practices are much better, and their prices are competitive (although still higher).

Amazon (proper, not marketplace) is still my favorite for shipping 'damagable' DVDs like anime boxes though - they shrinkwrap the item/items in question to a piece of cardboard the same size as the bottom of the box, ensuring that the item cannot move around inside the box and get damaged. This is on top of filler used to keep the item from banging into the top of the box. Overkill? Maybe, but I've never had to send a DVD back to Amazon.

Also, since my posts in this thread have turned into a DVD wholesaler's review thread, never buy DVDs from Overstock.com. They do not accept returns or exchanges, for any reason including damage in shipping. I am the proud owner of a beat-to-hell Stargate Season 6 box set, which Overstock.com wouldn't replace with the same item.

Is the stuff in your cart? Try opening another session (browser window) and retry it. I'd make a list first, though, in case their system loses your cart. Reboot your machine, if necessary. If all else fails, call them up. They are reachable on the phone, IIRC.

Well yes, it is or was in my cart. When I open a new window and try to view the cart now, it gives that same error though, instead of showing the cart. I was able to view it before entering a coupon.

My guess is that there's a corrupt entry in your DDDVD cookie. You can try removing that cookie. You could move it somewhere else if you don't want to delete it - that's what I'd do. My cookie is called:

C:\Documents and Settings\<My name>\Cookies<My name>@deepdiscountdvd[2].txt

OK, WTF? Arrg. I needed to do this today since i dont think I'll be home tomorrow.

The problem I had earlier was on my PC at work. Came home, obviously different PC, had to add everything to cart again, entered coupon, and got the same error. Maybe one of the DVD's on their website is corrupt. Which wouldn't be surprising since I've noticed several errors on their website - wrong titles, wrong pictures.

Also tried to call (before noticing they'd closed) and their phone just hangs up. No recording saying their closed. Odd.
