20% or 35% window tint

This is for a jet black coupe. The legal limit in Texas is 35% for front windows, and since I'm having my dealer do it, I don't think they'll go over the limit. So my options are 35% all around, or 35% front and 20% rear windows. What do you all think? Is 35% too light? I'm thinking I'd rather go with one tint all around rather than the uneven tints.

Definately go with the same tint all around. It just looks bad if they're different. As for the legal issues, if you have a cool doctor, you might be able to get him to write a note for you stating you have a medical condition and need tinted windows.

I had 20% on my fronts and it is pretty light. But i have 5% on the back.... I don't mind the two color look, but its a personal choice.

I'm in IL so I had to take the tint off the fronts.

Dealer just told me I could have 20% all around for an extra $50. How likely is it that I'd get busted for that? What the legal limit for you in IL, RGN?

Just told the dealer to do the 20% all around. Any else have any thoughts on window tinting?

Why are you getting it done at the dealer? Most places will not charge you extra to get a darker tint. I personally went with 35% on my Accord coupe. It is somewhat light, but I didn't want to go straight to 20%, because I obviouslly worry about not being able to see as well as I should with the tint. No problems at all with 35%, tho' I'll likely go for 20% with my next car.

Thanks for the input! It's not really the dealer who's doing it. But it's a tint shop who works very closely with them, and actually goes there a couple times a week to tint the cars. I didn't really want to take it to another shop, b/c I know tinting the back windows for my car (bmw 330ci) is a bit tricky due to this weird texture along the top strip. I've read a number of posts by people who have had to get their tints re-done multiple times b/c the shop couldn't get it on right.

So you'd say 20% all around isn't _too_ dark? Like you can still see through it right (though probably not incredibly clearly)?

Yeah I know what you mean about the weird texture at the top. My rear window has two pieces of film, with the top one being a lot more visible than I was hoping. I wanted to bring it back in and ask the shop that did it to inquire about it, but never did get around to doing it.

I haven't driven in a car with 20% tint, so I don't know how it'll be while driving. A friend of a friend of mine has 5% tint all around. Now that's just dumb, IMO. 20% should be fine tho', just will take time to get used to.

I have 30% on the front and 20% in the back and 12% for the rear window. I'm in Texas too.

Given my car already has OEM factory "green" tint (e.g. same one's you see in Benz's and BMW's) i didn't need much more heat reflection. The cool thing about it is even if i didn't choose the shiny type of tint the combination of the green tint and the aftermarket tint makes the window somewhat black-chrome-ish.

I have 20% on all windows on my car..

(except windshield of course)
and I will go darker next time... for ME, 35% is way too light!

I got like medium-dark and I would go a full dark next time.. not quite "LIMO" but darker than what I have.

BTW, what kind of cars are you all driving (sedan, coupe, suv?) and have you ever gotten any tickets or anything for the tints? Can ya tell how paranoid I am?

Well since most people don't tint their windshields, nighttime visibility shouldn't be a big deal.
