A BNC cable! If you have a monitor capable of using one, DO IT!! I kept thinking about buying one, but finally broke down and ordered it from Buy.com ($20 alone, but I paid $80 for the cable and a 700MHz Duron with coupon and free shipping). I am absolutely amazed at the difference. The colors and brightness have increased by a factor of five, and text is noticeably sharper.

Wow, a $20 cable makes all the difference in my $600 monitor. Why didn't someone tell me sooner???

Does a BNC cable hook up to the video card via a normal VGA connector?

In other words, does only the monitor need to support BNC?

My monitor has the BNC inputs, but I imagine I need a vid card with the same sort of output.

The cable is only different on one end -- the part that connects to the monitor. The other side is a standard VGA D-sub connector. My NEC has a five connector BNC hook-up, but others can have fewer (not sure how that works or if the effects are as dramatic).

However, if you have a five BNC capable monitor, buy one of these cables. Otherwise, you're cheating yourself. I'm still amazed.

OK, I'm gonna buy one for my Samsung 950p. Totally forgot I even had a BNC 5 input.

Here is Buy.com's cable (that I bought): Belkin BNC cable

I found them elsewhere for about $15.99 or so (wasn't Belkin, another brand), but the coupon made it free so I couldn't argue with the price.

Would this also work on the 900NF?

More importantly, has anything come out of this?
I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between this cable and the normal one that comes with your monitor?

I bought my BNC cable from this place, they can custom make any length for you. ultraspec cables Mine is eight feet long, no ghosting or anything on a Viewsonic P815. Supposedly they are the best you can buy, and I believe them. I had the buy.com mitsubishi cable before, and the difference between that cable and the ultraspec cable is amazing. I could probably equate it to AndrewR's epiphany with normal monitor cables and the buy.com bnc.

Viper: Check the back of your monitor. If you have five round connectors there that look like the old coax network connectors, then the Mitsubishi can use a BNC cable. I'm pretty sure it can since I remember looking at that monitor when I was shopping for this one.

frail: The difference with a BNC connector is that instead of mixing all the video signals into one cable like the standard connector does (the D-sub), a BNC cable separates the signals into multiple cables -- five discrete channels in my case (I think there are four and three wire cables, too). Since the signals are separated, there is less distortion and a cleaner signal, resulting in a better picture.

It's the same thing as an S-video cable and a standard coax connection for a VCR (though I've never used S-video since my VCR is too old).

Sillyboy: NOW you tell me.

Their webpage sucks -- two Java errors in three links. I'll try from work, maybe I'll have better luck.

Just checked, my 19" trinitron does have BNC connectors, so I'm definitely going to look into buying a cable. Thanks again for the tip

edit: Just found this at an outlet in the UK. Is this the sort of thing I need? :

M/M Multisync Cable VGA 5 to 1 PC BNC Conns 2m

or what about this one (more expensive...)

DAMNIT! I had the chance to buy a 21" CAD monitor a while back that had tons of these connectors (didn't know what to think of it). it was dirt cheap too! I still have to wonder, would it work normally on any video card? (I don't see why not, but the guy who was selling them said it was tough to get running).
