20 to 24 pin adapter?

So I've got an old Socket 754 system I'm looking to upgrade in my den and I just built a couple of 690G systems and really liked them. Very simple to use and build.

My Antec TruePower 550w is the original one without the Faquhahok capacitors that explode and I'd rather not replace it because it's a pretty beefy single rail PSU.

Even without SATA and PCI-E connectors, I can add those on with adapters.


Do you think using a cheap 20 to 24 pin adatper is a good idea

Sure, I see no issue there.

no issue at all, i also dont see an issue of just skipping the adapter. (quite often i skip the adapter, but on my personal systems and servers i dont)

I have used about 6 of the 20 to 24 pin adapters and have never had a problem. I have even skipped the 4 to 8 pin adapter without issue, but those boards were not overclocked.

Those adapters are a waste of money. Unless your motherboard has an extremely uncommon (and poorly chosen) configuration at the power socket, you will get no benefit and you'll introduce slightly more resistance into the current path to the motherboard.

Just plug in your supply as is, you'll be fine.
