20" widescreen or 20"??

I am seriously thinking of ordering a Dell 9100 with the 20" LCD monitor. Problem is it comes with the widescreen model I am wondering its better to have the widescreen or the "regular" 20". The regular 20" is more money. If you are in the know let me know

isn't the widescreen more for movies and the regular 20" more for games? i'm not sure about this so if someone else confirms, go ahead with whichever one you'll is it for more

To tell you truth I am considering buying it because I have neither the inclination nor the time to bother with building anymore.

I also hate to pay retail for a copy of XP...

This dell setup comes to $1099. With a 20" LCD monitor. If you can set me up with the parts to build a comparable machine I may just do it. But like I said I have neither the inclination nor the time or quite frankly anymore the know how to build. It would take a great deal of reading and researching on my part.

if a game works in widescreen, it will look better in widescreen, it depends on if you play ea games mostly (since they don't have widescreen support)

Mostly I just surf the internet etc. I have a 21" trinitron right now that is a beautiful monitor but it takes up half my computer room. Just looking to modernize things a bit and not spend a ton.

The 20" 4:3 would be better for the Internet, since it's physically larger by 7.6% and has 8.8% more pixels.

widescreen is better as your eyes support it very well when you look at sumthing you see wide not 4:3 with widescreen you can see more you can have more than one window open without having to minimize if the games you play support widescreen go for it.

that computer is a waste of money also gaming on an x300 is not gonna be fun speacially when you cant run a low res on that monitor i suggest you build you own and than get the 21'' gateway widescreen monitor it beats the 2005fpw in specs.

I have the Dell 2005FPW (20.1" widescreen) and I love it. DVDs play beautifully, and games also look fantastic!

Playing City of Heroes, City of Villains, and WoW all look great!

And I have a 15" Samsung SyncMaster 152n for general browsing while I'm playing on the main screen.

Ok but I don't play games anymore. I mostly just surf, play poker, microsoft apps, etc. I want to get a tv card and use the computer as a pvr.

If this computer is not good perhaps you could suggest the components needed to build a nice unit. I may indulge in the building program again...

I don't know Radeons. Is that going top be enough card? You should run the monitor in its native res (which I think will be 1280 x 1024 on the 4:3 screen, or 1680 x 1050 on the 16:10 screen), and you'll be pumping a lot of pixels. Probably won't be too big a deal on the desktop, if you don't mind some shuddering and windows tearing as you move them. You can always crank back the desktop colordepth. But as for the TV out, I think you may not like the performance driving the video overlay in 1680 x 1050 with that card, especially not if you want to go fullscreen.

The video card is upgradeable. Its just a bit more money. For what I do I can't believe there is a simplier way to buy a new computer than this and it has enough power to last me another 5 years...

If you dont want to build a computer, dont build a computer, duh. I have a 2005fpw, and I love it. For website you can have 2 open next to eachother, and although techincally theres less pixels and screen area, I think the widescreen gives more flexibility.

For example, 2 pages at 97% next to eachother in word is really handy for a student like me.

It was the most succesful satisfying part of my build for sure.

Oh I have nothing against Dell at all. I have bought 100+ of them over the last ten years, for home and business. They have the best shopping and system config website, probably the best order tracking, and they work hard to offer machines that have a good combination of components at just-off-the-bleeding edge tech levels (i.e. that don't cause 10,000 incoming call center contacts) and provide very good value. I also like that I can still log onto my account on their support site, see the config of machines I bought five years ago, and get links to all the drivers, specs, etc. I give them props for scaling up their business just about as well as anyone has.
