Ok, 12V DC fans, 240 CFM. I wouldn't put it on the motherboard headers....
only 14.95 each.
HERE

too much?

12V DC fans, only 230 CFM. $12.50
Here

This same place has the $2.95 80mm Panaflos. They are pretty good, I just ordered 6 of the panaflos and even they don't tell you shipping costs until it ships, it wasn't bad. $5 dollars for the shipment of 6 fans. Looksee around that site, they have some nice lateral fans too, but 24V.

What happens if you run a 24v fan at 12v?

Runs 1/2 as fast or is there some start-up peak voltage required, so the fan might not spin up at all?

The panaflo's are cheaper by the dozen (drops to $2.49). I got 12 and 12 black fan grills and shipping was like $6. Definately a good vendor.

I've been using one of these 24v fans for over a year and just installed another (all from mpja). They run at about half speed at 12v and still pump out 100+ CFM. I have had no problems with them not starting. They are really quiet, but these are NOT 120mm fans - they are about 170mm and you need to make a big hole in your case (6.75"). I also have some of the 12v ones, but they spin at full speed at 12v, are ALOT louder, and move a rediculous amount of air. I don't think that there should be a problem with them overheating with all that airflow, but remember that the 12v model will pull 2A for a total of 24 watts - that's alot for a fan. The 24v @ 12v will pull less than 1A, so there should be no problem with it using too much power (just don't put it on a motherboard header). I also recommend getting a fan grill for the 24v model (the 12v should come with one) - it will make sushi out of careless fingers.

I have the COMAIR, 230cfm fan and it is big. I found it to big to really use for computers but I put it and a little 100watt PS I found in a wooden box I built and made a real nice desk fan. It works very well and its quiet. Just make sure you have a grill guard on them. Mine has metal blades, you do NOT want your finger to accidently touch it while in operation.

*Almost* all 24V fans will run fine at 12V. There is a minimal spin-up voltage for all brushless DC fans, and it's usually around 40% of the rated voltage for a 24V fan, but with these larger industrial-type fans, they aren't necessarily only designed to run at "24V", they'd also run at 36V if you wanted even more airflow. Another good option for "power-cooling" is a 48V DC fan, which you could power via an A/C line rectified with one diode.

I would suggest to anyone considering these, to get out your rulers, because most cases are either too narrow or the HDD bay is too low for a 6.75" fan.

This IS a hot deal for those fans, but, no matter what you have in your case, a "PC" doesn't need a fan this size, no matter what is in it. A double-wide server might need one, but who wants to carve up a $200+ dollar case to fit one?

HERE is the manufacturer's page for these.

LOL.. I was just thinking it would be hilarious if someone modded a dirt cheap case to hold one of these.. at least on the outside or something..
