My sister can still play sims 2 on a geforce 2 mx 200. The 6800 is a great card, i'd buy it, based on price alone. If you buy high-end, it'll last awhile, that's pretty much a gaurentee.

The 6800 is what you'd consider High-End? OK! I guess your opinion is the only one convincing me.... anybody else?

Also, I'm upgrading from a Ti 4200....would a 4200 to a 6800 be a pretty good leap in those games especially at the settings I play at?

EDIT: I have a 420 watt Raidmax with a 13a 12v line. Would that be OK to run this?

430 watts will be able to run it fine, but you might wanna watch out, Raidmax isn't one of the better brands.

I am not a serious gamer. If I buy this 6800, is there any other significant benefit except gaming? Such as video editing, CAD

It can't be too bad, unless u plan to overclock it. Then you might consider installl some aftermarket HSF

If you're planning on playing at 10x7 with no AA/AF, then this card should be fine for you. I'm not sure how well it overclocks, but I've read that people have unlocked the extra four pipes pretty easily. And even if you have problems with the rebate at CompUSA, getting it at $230 (price before $30 MIR) is still a hot deal in itself (especially seeing that 6600GTs are selling for $245 right now on NewEgg).

MSRP on a 6800 is $300., which makes it either highest mid range or lowest high range, take your pick.

Not bad at all.
There isn't much diff in the coolers for the 6800nu series between manufacturers. Most of the coolers look the same except for the screw-on name badge plate. They all seem to be running the heat pipe setup which does just fine.

AFAIK, the RivaTuner SoftMod works well with this card. Only a small handfull of users reported one of the 16 pipes was bad after the softmod. You can disable that bad pipe VIA the softmod. Also, this baby OC's fairly decently.

Just got mine from CompUSA and enjoying the newfound glory of HL2. I was using a Ti4200 64MB before.

The softmod and OC'ing will come later.
