Looks like the $199 PS3 is here. Have to apply for a new Sony card by Saturday.

Qualifying purchase includes anything of $349+, so I think you can get a deal on something else too. (Example: if you need a Blu-Ray player with analog surround output, Sony S550.)

edit: ended 3/14, sorry

I got mine for $212 shipped using a similar method. Worked according to plan.

(Ordered through TigerDirect to get 10% cashback in addition to the Sony Card deal... if that still works, this would be even cheaper)

looks like sonystyle.com only.. still.. 200 for a ps3 and I have 130 in Gift cards to best buy I was saving towards a PS3.

~200 for a PS3, MGS4, RE5 and Killzone 2.. can I possibly resist this?

I actually need a new credit card anyway, I just got my first job and my current card is a PNC Visa I got during college with a 1200 dollar limit. Fairly useless.. does anyone know if these sony cards are decent?

Yeah, I wonder... If this is really $200 off *anything* *anywhere*, it would be ultra plasma hot. But I'm not sure how far beyond Sony stuff at Sony's site it will go.

here are the card terms btw

it worked before, don't see how it wouldn't work again.

Occasionally they do have a sonystyle requirement but its not often.

So tempting. I can see myself using the PS3 as a bluray player. But are any of the games any good? Can it be used as a dvr or streaming media or netflix? Sorry, I'm a PS3 noob.

Yay. Great find! Applied in like 5 mins. Doesn't look like you have to order from their store either. Easy $200 in my pocket as long as I buy something over $350. HOT!

Ratchet & Clank, Killzone, Resistance 1-2, etc. + cross-platform games if you don't have a 360.

No to a DVR.

Yes to streaming from your PC using Windows Media Player, you can also put music, photos etc on a USB hard drive or flash drive. For Netflix you need to stream from your PC using PlayOn ($30).

Hrm. Wasn't really worth it to me at $100, $200 however is quite tempting.

Also the "qualifying purchase" at sonystlye.com is only for the 0% APR for 12 months. As quoted above in order to qualify for the free $200 you have to make a single purchase for more than $349 within the first 45 days.

So far I'm seeing 10% interest rate, no annual fee. The usual CC terms and rules. Anybody else that has this card, or has read through the terms and conditions see anything out of the ordinary?

I have had it for about a year ($150 deal on ps3), haven't noticed anything weird thus far

They also had a solid BT offer a few months ago for 0% for 12months which i used.

yes you can make a purchase ANYWHERE for $349 and you get $200 back.

I did this card last year (sadly it was only $100 back at the time).

The way the offer is on the web it makes it look like you have to purchase at sonystyle.com. You only have to do that to get the extra sony points. If you make a purchase anywhere for $350 you get the money though.

I paid my car insurance with the sony card and got my $100 within 3 weeks. For $200 off this is awesome.

This should be hot
You really only have to use the card once if you, then you can cancel.
Also, after you apply for the card, you have 45 days to make that 350$ purchase. I think I'll wait for that upcoming PS3 "price drop" that is possibly coming.

Damn, I wish it was $200 check, not a statement credit.

So let's say you buy a PS3 for ~$400, and then your monthly statement comes in for $400. The $200 credit will be posted to your account in 8-12 weeks. So obviously, it wont be applied to your statement with the PS3 on it. When you do get the $200 credit, your card's balance is now at -$200 correct? So, you get $200 worth of other items for free, instead of a discount on the ps3. If you buy the PS3 at Sony's site, you get 12 months 0% apr. So can you just pay the minimum (with no interest) every month till the $200 credit come in?

it says 8-12 weeks, but when I did it last year it was on the first statement right after I made a purchase.

Plus you can just use the card to pay for stuff you were already going to buy. I mean buy gas cards with it, or pay your auto insurance (which is what I did)

Sweet. Thanks for that information!

How long did it take for the card to mailed?
- "If you are approved, you will be able to make a one-time purchase at SonyStyle.com only, with up to a maximum line of credit of $5,000. Additional purchases with this account cannot be made until your card is received in the mail." So you have to wait till you get the card to use it somewhere else (not sony style)

The 80GB PS3 is not backwards compatible with PS2 games - only PS1 games

"Note: This model will not play PlayStation® 2 games, but is backwards compatible with PS one? games."

But this model is the newer improved one, with a smaller 65nm Cell processor. "Power consumption on this unit is lower as well, dropping from 200 Watts to 135 watts. The end result is a machine that runs cooler and, according to all reports as well as my personal experience, much quieter. An extremely relevant factor if you watch movies with it."

Is there going to be a price drop on the PS3??

Damn, I wish there was a confirmed release date for GoW3. Been waiting for the latest refresh before that comes out.
