2000, Nero 5.0.3.8, Yamaha CRW8424EZ ... and problems =)

So, I don't have Intel's ATA Storage driver installed, my CD-RW is running in forced PIO mode right now (no DMA whatsoever), and I'm having a problem with Nero 5.0.3.8 in Windows 2000.

I can burn a CD (any cd -- ISO, VCD, etc), and afterwards, the CD appears to be burned, I get an "Operation Successful" message, but the CD isn't recognized in either drive -- neither my burner nor my Pioneer 16X DVD.

I reboot, go to Windows 98, same version of Nero, and everything burns fine. I even have Intel's ATA storage driver installed on 98, and Nero *still* works fine.

Nero has this issue listed in their helptool on their website as a problem with DMA and some CD-RW drives (my Yamaha isn't listed in their list). But, my CD-RW drive isn't even running in DMA mode, so I don't understand the problem.

Both Adaptec EZ CD Creator 4.03 and CDRWin 3.8d work fine under Windows 2000 -- so I have no idea what Nero's fault is.

Try choosing disconnect on both your hd and cdrw. I had the same prob and was also getting some underruns and saw a post with this tip and it worked. Hope it helps.

The whole "Disconnect" and "Asychronous Transfer" option dialog is a part of Microsoft's 98 driver package.

I don't have a problem under 98.

Windows 2000 includes a different set of drives for CD and hard drives. The only option you have available to you through the device manager in 2000 in regard to the actual functioning of the drive(s) is a DMA-mode select between "PIO Only" and "DMA if available."

I've never had a problem installing/using Nero -- it works fine in 98, it burns fine in 2000 -- the CD just isn't recognized.

My problem was fixed by upgrading to Nero 5.0.3.9 -- it's not available on the nero webpage, because it fixes Yamaha-specific problems.

If you don't have a problem, I don't suggest you upgrade:

Nero 5.0.3.9
