Dealer sale price $22973 + tags (no tax in oregon)
Invoice price (from edmunds.com) $25,341
MSRP (from edmunds.com) $27,595
MSRP according to dealer $28k (don't remember exactly)
State: Oregon
Zip code: 97401

Details
2002 Durango Sport 4x4, brand new, 3 small dings/scratches on right side, small but they are there. (dealer will fix these before sale) only option on the truck is pinstripeing. Patriot Blue Pearlcoat.

My main goal is to tow my 67 Coronet/66 Buick accross country with this. I will install the needed items (as recommended by the dealer, amazingly) myself (or by a local shop).

Is this a good deal on this "D"?

Anyone having any problems with these rigs? (can we overclock them .. LOL j/k =)

Anything else I should look for or be aware of when buying this?

Any tips on car buying? (been reading edmunds.com alot lately)

Thanks,

Jim

That's a pretty good damn deal for a 2002 4x4! If I could find one for that price around here I'd be all over it!

I have a 2001 Durango SLT+ $33K AWD, heated leather seats, woodgrain, 4.8L (or whatever the smaller of the two V8 engine sizes are).. It's very nice, and the vehicle has had no problems in the year that I've had it.

C'mon, admit to yourself that you want a Hummer wagon...even though it costs around 80k

if your going to tow, expect to have the auto tranny go out, like every 30 to 50 K. big weakness in dodge trucks/SUV's and cars to it seems including the LH series. in the last few years it seems to have gotten better but there still weak in the automatic tranny dept.

durango's are ok, hard on gas thou. still there better than jeep grand Cherakees (sp?)

I am a ex mopar fan, just got sick of the tranny mess, plus I don't consider them to be a true american brand anymore

Why does everyone do this car?

My previous employer had 4 of them All with OVER 150,000 on them.

ON ONE the tranny went out @ 180,000. Not that bad!

DO the maintence. Change oils and tranny filter!

BTW we towed, about once a month!

tm37, how much weight did you guys pull and how far did you tow? he is going to tow 4,000 pounds accross the country plus I am sure extra weight in the dodge.

the durango isn't all that bad, but the tranny is a weakness

still it's better for heavy towing than the competition, unless you go to a bigger suv like a suburban etc

LOL, tranny problems were early 90's and back. Hell, the 4 speed and 5 speed are made by Aisen Seiki in Japan. (They produce Toyota's trannies also)

That looks like a good deal on the Durango, but not a good deal for towing what you're going to tow. I certainly hope you don't plan to tow both of them at once with this. You need at least a 3/4 ton full size truck to do so safely and at a reasonable speed. Light duty trucks don't handle or brake well when towing 5000 lbs.

Also, in my experience, Dodge trucks get crappy mileage while towing heavy loads (such as another car.)

I'd take a serious look at the Chevy Silverado 2500/2500HD. Chevy Silverado

Did they put the 4.7L in the Durango? I know the earlier models had the 3.9V6 (base) and the 5.2 and 5.9L 318 and 360 V8's. Dodge V8's are strong.. I'd think you'd be happy in this truck.. go fer it. good deal too.. I want a Dakota R/T!
