<< Hi Gerrick:

___With the Auto show here in Chicago this week, I am hoping for a good deal like what you found for the Civic LX. I have been looking at the Civic LX 4 Dr. for the last two months and they are just a touch under $15,000 ($14,983) including destination at dealer cost here in Illinois. The 2002 Camry LE?s look great but at $18,000.00 w/ 32 mpg-highway to be burned up in 4 years is a bit much. Having a 92 Accord LX with 156,000 and 2 set of tires, a broken timing belt at 132,000 (I should have replaces it at 120 ), and minor suspension work to show for it, Honda?s have my vote for the longevity and low operating costs. My wife?s 92 Toyota Previa has 162,000 and has had 3 sets of rotors and calipers (this is pissing me off) as well as 1 AC rebuild. The 97 Nissan 4x2 P/U has 90,000 and won?t start in wet weather (POS!), the 2000 Chevrolet 4x2 ext. cab has 39,000 and the passenger seat will not latch (4X to the shop now ?) and only gets 21 on the hwy when it was supposed to get 29, and my long forgotten 87 Mercury Sable was basically undriveable at 160,000 w/ A/C going out twice, fuel injection shot, suspension shot, along with rotors and pads every 45,000 ? The Toyota with last weeks rotor/caliper/pads replacement is still solid but I need a high mileage car for work (200 miles/day round trip) and the Civic looks to fit the bill. That $13,999 is a deal for a car that works as well as the Honda?s I have owned in the past and gets 38 mpg on the highway to boot!

___I do have to ask if the $13,999 for an LX 4-dr. w/out side air bags included destination as well?

___Thanks for the heads up. Now I will just have to wait and see ?

no side airbags with destination. It is also a 5 speed.

<< Here's safe and reliable for ya:

3 weeks ago I walked away unscathed from an accident in which my '92 Honda Civic EX 4-door rolled over twice. Needless to say, they are going to total it, and give me ~4500 for it. While that seems like a lot for a 9 year old car with ~190,000 miles on it, in a way I still feel like I'm getting ripped off. Though I treated it like crap, the car was in perfect condition internally, and I would have probably kept it until the (automatic)transmission fell out +100,000 miles later. Who can guess what kind of car I'm getting to replace it?
>>

Tranny falls out when it hits 100K miles? That's rather crappy if you ask me, my '91 escort has over 160K on it, and I've never had any problems with the transmission.

Really? Why don't you just keep buying them and then sell them and make money indefinitely?

He meant...in a comical way....that the tranny would have fallen out another 100K miles later, at 290,000 miles. You actually sound like you think the tranny would fall out then. I doubt your 91 escort last til 200K, it would either fall apart or you would have given up on it by then.

Oh yes this is very very good. One more honda for me to be fast and furious in. I will be sure to invest 20k in this car which is only worth 13k so that it can go a second faster and so that from far away it can sound very intimidating with the waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh noises. Excellent deal!

<< Hate to break it to you, even Honda uses plactic's like saturn, you know where they got the Idea... Thats right, Saturn. Honda even buys motors from GM now, mostly V8's. Look under the hood of a honda you will see a lot of Delphi relays and small parts. ALL GM.

ehhhhh which Honda has a V8?

But the Saturn has a better rating from saftey, reliability, and gas milage. That and no timing belt to break like honda.

But most people don't know that much about cars, so if thats what looks good to you. good luck.

Homer also says: Only FOB's drive honda's/acura's!!

For the price go German for 2k more and get a passat. Those sonuvabitches are comfortable and fast and no exhaust and 20 guages needed. Peugots are very good too, damn shame they don't sell them here. It's probabally cuz the french still hate us.

Car magazines mentioned Acura will have their next generations of NSX sports car and RL luxury sedan powered by a Honda V8.

<< Hate to break it to you, even Honda uses plactic's like saturn, you know where they got the Idea... Thats right, Saturn. >>

Name one Honda model that uses plastic door shells and fenders. Don't mention their lawn mower model. Yeah, sure Honda uses plastics, every car company uses plastics. I think you missed what the other poster's comment about Saturn's use of plastics on body parts.

<< Honda even buys motors from GM now, mostly V8's. >>

It was rumored that GM supplies Honda diesel V8s for their trucks. Not sure if it's for domestic or trucks sold in other countries. I would have to find out if they sell V8 trucks in Europe as you have mentioned. The rumors circled around the deals that Honda gets diesel V8s and Onstar service from GM, and GM gets the V6 for the current Saturn L series sedans. Acura, the luxury division of Honda, have started using GM's Onstar service.

<< Look under the hood of a honda you will see a lot of Delphi relays and small parts. ALL GM. >>

Delphi is a major parts manufacturer owned by GM. That's Delphi's business, parts. They sell parts to other non-GM companies. So what if Honda uses GM parts? In order for a car w/ a foreigh "nameplate" to be declared as a US domestic car (assembled here - Made in USA), that car has to use more than 80% of parts made in the USA.

<< But the Saturn has a better rating from saftey, reliability, and gas milage. >>

How did you conclude that? Check ConsumerReports, Insurance Institute, edmunds.com and car magazines and tell me how you conclude that. The only thing Saturn is better than Honda, plus many other companies, is the retail service. Their no-hassle sale service is easy on concumer's head and temper.

<< That and no timing belt to break like honda. >>

What? Saturn doesn't use a timing belt? Every gasoline powered car uses a timeing belt. You should be more specific. Saturn inline four cylinder engine uses chain timing belt, while Honda (and many others) uses serpentine belt. The advantage of serpinetine belt is engine noise, the less there of. The disadvantage is service life. Serpinetine belt is usually recommended to be replaced after 90K miles.

<< But most people don't know that much about cars, so if thats what looks good to you. good luck. >>

I'll leave that other others in this forum, to judge you, too. GOOD LUCK

I'm sorry but the only American car I would buy is a Corvette Z06, even that it has a cheap GM interior. It's the soul I would be buying. I'm patriotic American, but not a stupid one. Don't expect me to give my money to an American car company that only cars about taking my money and not my needs for a well-built automobile. So, it's American made Honda's (me no like Toyota cars) all the way.

Car&Driver saids that Honda might bring over both the RSX Type-R and Civic Type-R (to be named SiR) in about two years. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

FYI Hypercar (? -- dunno about name for sure, just heard this on NPR a couple days ago) of Utah has a prototype hybrid car that not only gets great gas milage, but with the special fiberglass body you can WALK AWAY from a head on at 35mph. try that in any of your "safe feeling" steel cars!
>>

huh? you can frontal a cement wall at 50mph in a volvo 740/940 and walk away. for that matter you can hit the same wall at 100mph in a stock car or F1. the technology to do this has been around for decades. we the consumers just don't demand it. we prefer "sexy" to safe... and if there's anything a volvo isn't, it's sexy.

But why do Hondas only have a 3/36 warranty??????? Isn't that the same a GM's warranty? Hondas have a better reliability record.
So what gives? Sounds like they'll give the customer as little as they can get away with. If you read lots of car forums, you'll find more people talking about buying an extended warranty on Hondas than on any other brand. Hmmmmmm.

wow, I just wasted 5 min of my life on this thread of bickering. I only wish I enough money to buy any care new or used. Honda or not. All of this talk back and forth probably should belong in car forums.

I found this a funny thread. I "used" to be into Honda long ago (4 civics and 2 accords). My wife liked them then. I personally like Ford myself. She gave up her Honda's and can't stand Japanese cars now, but my oldest son is really into them. I put a whole short block in my Ford T-bird (Turbocharged 2300 cc) for what it cost my son to buy just a replacement piston set. Before you go bragging on anything, check out what the local mechanics charge for fixing any car, and see what the replacement parts cost. Her Honda's did drive a ton of miles, but when they went down, what a royal pain to get fixed. You better have a fully certified repair facility close by.

Oh, my wife is Japanese.
