Victory! On July 14 of 2002 the Distributed.net RC5-64 contest comes to an end, when the secret message is finally decrypted: "The unknown message is: some things are better left unread". The first and still the biggest of Team AnandTech's project, TA comes in 2nd place, trashing our original enemies Slashdot and edging out the Russians. The dastardly Dutch Power Cows did beat us in the end, however.

Ahhhh, it is from this the mutual competitiveness between the Cows and TA comes ... !

After months of connection-problems due to Berkeley's total network-usage had increased, SETI@home got their own 100 Mbit-link to the internet in June.

Genome@Home with excellent dialup-support, downgraded to the mediocre Folding@Home-client instead.

Well another big event in 2002 was the Seti race with DSLR. It went from January 1, 2002 at 1pm cst to Feb 28, 2002 at 1pm cst.

At the beginning, things didn't look too good for TA:
New Additions at DSLR makes it tight

Thanks to recruiting threads organized by Engineer and his now famous more more more slogan we started to really pull away:

Finally on Feb 28, we were officially announced as the winners:
As Smoke said, Whose Your Daddy!

And the concession post from their ambassador MgKnight

During the time of the race, TA saw a huge increase in membership. There are quite a few members on various projects that are still crunching that joined during this great race.

Most Valuable Cracker for 2002 was Smokeball aka Smoke :beer:

At one point we made it to #1 in D2OL. I remember Geoffs used to give out weekly (or daily?) updates.
