Not that unusual for a V8 (I'm assuming it's a V8, but I wouldn't know because I still haven't gotten my stupid brochure! ), or at least it didn't used to be. My mom's '85 Chevy Caprice Classic (V8) got about 10mpg city, 14 highway or something along those lines (but it was a really nice ride). But I haven't really ever looked at V8 gas mileages in recent cars. 6 cylinders is plenty for my needs.

And you get stiffed on the purchase when you look at the sticker price - $44,000 for the one that I saw on the showroom floor. The leather interior was the most notable option, but $44,000 ??!!??##?? We just picked up a new 2002 Mazda Millenia "P" for $20,700 and couldn't imagine wanting anything else at the current moment.

LOL! It's not because it has 8 cylinders... it's because it weighs 5000lbs!

A Corvette gets about 20/city 29/hwy which are almost exactly the same numbers as my wife's '01 V6 Accord. Too bad the Corvette has almost 2x as much hp... Can't quite fit 5 ppl tho.

Stupid Americans and their old technologies...

Nice deal BTW

OMG

more than a month later, I got it. I made sure to order the 2003 expedition brochure. So, I got:

brochure
DVD
spam
more spam
potted meat
TREET
canned corned beef
and a postcard, which is perforated inside one of the brochures.

which is where I check "$75 debit card", give it to the salesman to sign, grab it back, and mail it myself.

edit: other options were some sort of duffel bag and a putter.

Got mine yesterday.
$75 debit card is my choice.

Even got a letter from the local Ford dealer telling me the
brochure was on the way and if I had any questions to
contact them. Funny, I actually test drove one about a month
ago. I must admit, for a Ford, I was impressed. The question
about reliability still lingers in the back of my mind though with
such a large investment.

Well, off to drive one again, maybe the propaganda will work!

I believe the debit card is for current Expedition owners who test drive the 2003. The big selling point on the new 2003 amoung many new features is the fully independent suspension which makes for a much nicer ride. The body design now more closely resembles a sport SUV like the Explorer. Originally at least the intention of the test drive bonus was to lure current Expedition owners to test out the new ride of the independent suspension.AFAIK

How should I do the test drive? Give them the card and say I wanna do the test drive or give it to them after the test drive? Or could I just ask them to sign it?

I actually got two things from ford today. One envelope with a brochure with the $75 debit card offer (brochure went directly to the trash after I got my postcard out), and a second envelope telling me I was pre-approved for any ford vehicle up to $45,000. I'm THINKING (and this is just a theory), that maybe they do a quick credit pre-approval to make sure you even have enough credit to get an expedition before they just send out an offer for $75.

If you actually plan on BUYING or at least seriously considering a Ford Expedition then I would ask them to sign it after the test drive.

If you don't have any plans of buying a Ford Expedition then you don't really need to test drive one. I have done over 30 of these "test drive" deals and I have NEVER had to actually get behind a wheel and drive a car. First of all make sure that you dress decently, go to the dealership walk up to a car salesman, be upfront, friendly and honest tell them that you're not going to buy a car today and you don't want to waste their time or yours. Ask them very nicely to complete and sign your test drive certificate, 99.99% of the time they'll appreciate your honesty and sign it. A few seconds later you're out the door and didn't have to test drive a car.

I guess you haven't read all of the posts yet. I DID receive the 2003 Expedition brochure with the offer for a $50 Debit card. It appears you have been FORD:

I just got my certificate.

And just to make free money even easier to get I was wondering if anyone knew of a website that listed dealer codes. Because most of these certifcates just require dealer code and signature. and the signature is impossible to verify so all we really need is a dealer code. The most we would have to to is go into a dealership and ask for a business card, and then see how many the guy will give you for future use, tell him you want to hand them to all your friends. and the cards are only required for some testdrives. I have the codes for a nissan and a mazda dealership in Atlanta I could add to the database if anyone knows of one.

Got my 2003 expedition brochure a few days ago. It has the $75 debt card option in it. No where on them forms says anything about having to own an earlyer years model. I'm going to pay the dealer a visit this weekend sometime. I remember a few years back that ford red carpet lease sent me a card that if I test drove "any" ford, that they would give me a $25 bond ($50 value when it matures). Sure enough after I sent in the stuff they sent me the bond. I never got to drive the ford tho. The dealer just signed the card and I mailed it in. I really didn't care if I test drove one or not. However they acted as if they didn't want me to drive one anyways. Maybe being how young I was they doubted i'ld be able to afford the truck I wanted to drive (was a f-150). Yah I know this sounds like b.s and I was entitled to test drive one. But I got what I came in for and sent it in. This time I may actually drive the truck. You know, cruise around a while making people think you own it and are rich. I'ld never buy that truck no matter how well it handles. I don't see spending over $30k for a car/truck something i'ld do. My limit is $20k-$25k at the most. Besides, if I could even afford that. On top of all this, its a ford and will always be a ford.

Went in last night, didn't take a drive, told them I was about 6 months from buying a car and the only reason I came in was because I got this offer in the mail. They signed the thing, and told me to give them a call when I'm ready to buy.

I find it ironic that I'm making $75 from my most hated mode of transportation, an SUV

Haha, sweet, went to my PO box today, and found a second brochure, with another coupon in the brochure. Make that $150 I'm going to make on my most hated transportation

U are all nuts...
Americans....
Probably what you really need is to pay a little bit more for a gasoline... then you would understand..
I dont know, why would you even think about getting this piece of crap.. its ugly, its big, and it is not environment friendly....
?
It is not responsible to keep buying such vehicles...
My opinion.

Edit: This is anti hot...

I think I'm the only one that actually WANTS to test drive the 2003. We currently have a '97 and am curious how much difference the independent rear suspension makes . I'm also interested in the way the 60/40 3rd seat folds down to the floor (ours is removable only). Plus, the DVD player would be sweet for our 3 little ones. Right now, I use a 9" AC/DC VCR/TV for long trips. Anyway, probably won't buy one, but do want to check them out. I know that these vehicles don't make a lot of sense for the majority of people, but they're extremely useful to those with large families that need large towing capacities. For our lifestyle right now, I can't think of another class of vehicle that would fit the bill.

Thanks wsmith5.

Thanks to these forums I can share my opinion though!

Hmm, I dont like these type of vehicles because I live in Michigan. And everytime when I am stuck in a traffic jam, there is one bigg ass Excursion/Tahoe/Escallade/Navigator type of a moster right in front of me, blowing the toxic fumes in my face....
That is not cool... :|
