Bought a certified used 04 Dodge ram 1500 3.7L v6 on 09 which only had 60k on it. In august of 10, started overheating. Truck would be fine on the freeway, but on streets or in stop and go traffic, would over heat to were the gauge was all the way in the red. Had to turn the heat on blast to remove some of the hot air. Replaced the raidator, themo., and engine at the time. Fast foward to the start of may, and the gauge is telling em once again that the engine is starting to over heat. Same problem. On freeways, gauge is right in the middle, on streets and in stop and go traffic, guage is 9/10 of the way towars the red. Have checked the radiator and its not leaking, top off the cooliant as well. Have noticed that water is leaking from the truck. Need advise. Is the a common problem, that would make the old raditor and engine overheat and a new raditor and engine to over heat? Could it be the water pump with the water leaking? And suggestions?

does it have an electric cooling fan? If so that is your problem. The fan or relay or sensor is bad. If it has an engine driven fan then I would suspect the fan clutch is bad.

check the water pump. usually they dont come new with a motor replace (if you did replace the v6 lol) and they arent the best when worn out. i had a similar issue on my older 2001 ram 1500. it was a combo of the radiator being gummed up at the lower half and the water pump not circulating enough water fast enough. if youre leaking water, find out where its from, should be easy enough to trace the trail. mine has sprung a leak at the top bolt of the water pump over the past couple weeks, and is a PITA to get stopped. ill have to pull the pump and reseal it this weekend. if you did replace the actual engine, why didnt you drop a v8 in that sucker?

I vote electric fan issue.

Your engine overheating probably damaged a gasket somewhere that's now causing the leak.

Indeed, the 2004 does have a mechanical clutch for the fan. That's what you need to go after.
