That car is way too cool. I don't like the white interior, but color is easily fixed.

Of course if GM did bring that over to the States they would find plenty of ways to screw it up.

The taillights are reminiscent of the new tC IMHO...not that that's a bad thing...well, on second view, maybe not...those pictures are all at weird angles or too small so i can't tell too much

Only loosely. It has Kappa suspension, everything else has been made wider/longer. It is rumoured this is now a new chassis within GM called 'Beta'. Currently it is believed it will be built (IF it goes into production) in the US, but another factory maybe built in Australia if there is expected to be huge demand within asia. A Pontiac version is expected.

Partly it is because Australia is a mid-sized market, big enough to make a half decent production run, (20,000-100,000 units) but not too large that if you fvsk up, it does not destroy a company like GM.

Apart from that, Holden has one of the best car design teams in the world. This is the car they designed on their own time! It was not meant to be for production, but the response from the public was so overwhelming that Holden eventually released it and it is now selling very well.
