2005 Buick Century has a popping/knocking noise coming from the engine. Added short vid of sound

On the way home from work tonight my car started making a popping/knocking noise. It started to idle a little rough but not bad and then the SES light started blinking. I was able to limp it home and after it cooled down I checked the oil, plugs, and exhaust. Everything checked out so I was wondering if anyone here might care to take a crack at it. Here is a short vid I shot so you can hear the sound it is making. I do not have a OBDII scanner to get the code for the SES error.

Not sure but it sounds timing related...? Like a timing chain hitting somewhere...? Does it have a miss in it...?

I would definitely say there's likely a miss in it, given his SES Light is blinking. Honestly he shouldn't have even tried to limp it home. It definitely sounds like the timing is off. Also the chance the head gasket has failed and exhaust is backing up into the coolant. Either way it's almost guaranteed stuff is going to need taken off that engine to find out what's wrong, and inspect what might have also been damaged (especially if a valve is sticking after having contacted the cylinder).

14 year old 3.1 V6 with mileage expected for that age?

Without looking at any video or evidence and taking the gut feeling route.....
Stretched timing chain doing its little happy dance inside the engine waiting for you to set it free.

Kudo's to your car for surviving the the intake manifold of doom...

Watched the video. Stretched timing chain or tensioner failure.
Loose chain doing its happy dancing against the case.

Just a quick update for everyone. We took it to the shop and our mechanic said the there was a loss of compression on cylinder 5. He said that the rocker arm for that cylinder stripped the threads on the valve and that is what is causing the noise.

At $2000 give or take for a head job I think this old Buick is going to the big junk yard in the sky......

A little over 110,000 which I thought was surprising. I know the 3.1 wasn't the best motor GM ever produced but I've owned several cars with that motor in them that went well past that mileage with out a major engine failure like this one.
