This the outmoded pushrod that US cars use. Europe hasn't used this in years. No wonder the US can't design a decent performance car.

Ck out what Europe and Japan use instead.

you are hereby excused from ever talking about cars on this forum again.

do you honestly know that little about motors?

now name me some cars from europe/japan that have this much power. all at 33K.

oh come on..you should have led him on...given the guy a chance....

It was going to be fun

heh, I drive a great VTEC/honda powered car.

But man you gotta give respect where its due - and the new GTO has it in spades.

I want one really badly

Press the "listen" button on the website...it makes me cry....

Vroom....vroom...

I want that to be my vroom vroom

i never understood completely the purpose for buying a fast road car. most corvettes and transams and porsches i see in the street seem to drive normally. sure they often go a little faster than other cars, but other cars can go fast as well if thy wish. it seems illogical that people would buy a 400hp car if they never max out the potential of the car when driving. my brother owns an s2000 and frankly, i think its great and fast and everything, but in normal driving, itd hardly perform better than a little accord, and actually be less comfortable (ride us harsh and noisy).

it makes sense if you guys race on a track and everything (since its fun), but im not sure if everybody with these fast cars do so.

perhaps people like the feeling of flooring a mustang on a green light? still, i hardly see that happen, even from people driving fast cars. i tried relating it to people buyingt high power PCs, but it didntr really work. we have 3GHz HT cpus and super video cards, but we get that to play games- not to run benchmarks. i guess what im saying is, why buy a sports car if the advantage of sportscars over road cars can hardly be used? (i may be wrong, its just that everytime i see these fast cars in traffic, they seem to drive pretty similarly to "normal" cars). luxury cars i can understand, as they are real comfortable... but i know for one my brother never takes his s2k to go racing or anything.

maybe if i drove more of them itd make sense.

ever stomp down on a 300+ HP car?

ever wish you had more power than that feeling?

If not then you'll never understand. Its like owning you own personal roller coaster. everyday.

i wonder what GM is going to do after the LS2, they are not going to be able to bore it out much more (motor trend listed it as having only .5 or .05 mm left to bore out) they are going to have to staright changing other things on the engine to make it more powerful. god, a SC/Turbo would be godly stock from the factory on an LS2 engine.

My buddy Randy is drooling over this car. He's been playing back the audio clip of the engine for almost a year now.

I like that boast, 1000 units per month. I finally saw a GTO for the first time about 2 days ago. You realize I see NSX's, Maseratis and Bentleys more often.....

Are you kidding me? You're missing the entire point of the car. Keep that tach above what is it, 6k? Report back.

Aye....my commute is only fun when I am in 2nd and third gear....for about an hour:Q

120hp in a 1990 Honda accord is quite peepy at 5000rpm:evil:

Nothing of "this"magnitude by a long shot, but at least I am getting practice

Only cause you're about inbetween the peak torque and peak horsepower

hooboy - just think when you get a car that has some torque. You deserve to test drive the new GTO.

Just be careful on the throttle - don't wanna spin her out too much.

Trust me..I'll smoke the shiATTT out of that thign with the lead foor I have! My car is burning oil, the suspension is shot etc, so you have to pretty much muscle that thing to get it to go anywhere....

having that much power on tap...:Q.....I can't even fathom thinking about perhaps maybe imagining it

When I was working for Hughes which was owned by GM at the time, I had the opportunity to buy GM car at deep discount (up to 35% from MSRP). I prayed that GM came up with some exciting new car so I can buy. In 1997, new Corvette appeared. What a disapointment !!!! That darn push rod engine vibrated so much that I decided to go with the BMW 540i. Never regret my choice. As year passed, many improvements were made to the GM LS1 engine to mask its inherent shakiness due to its push rod design. However, each time I tried it out and compared it with the competion using DOHC, dissatisfaction is still the norm. Sad to say, the same thing happened with the new Corvette this year. I am thinking to go for the BMW M5. Their new V10 is smooth like silk.

you dont get the point of a muscle car / sports car combination do you....

they arent supposed to be smooth as silk, they are supposed to rattle you to the bone.

go try out the new STS-v or the CTS-v im pretty sure both of those engines are very very silky smooth. and very little vibrations.

yeah, but the dohc design weighs a lot and takes up gobs of space. the LS1 is extremely light and compact for its displacment. and you really don't lose all that much power. plus pushrod engines generally develop better low end torque.
