I had an '05 GTO back when they were new, and I had modified it with JBA (50 state legal, as I live in California) headers and a Corsa Sport exhaust. The car sounded great and was a blast to drive. Future mods for you could easily include supercharging or an upgraded cam and heads. Drawbacks: Dated styling, and wheels/tires that are a bit too narrow to effectively hook when launching the car.

The '04 has a 350hp 5.7L LS1 engine with an inefficient dual exhaust that exits out one side of the car, while the '05-6 has a 400hp 6.0L LS2 with a true dual exhaust, along with a redesigned and more interesting looking hood.

Getting bored with it.

The most EXPENSIVE American habit/addiction.

I live with my choices and usually keep my cars until they die.

What happens when you get bored with your wife....child.....etc

PS. GTO is a great car and I would've picked it over the Jag to begin with. Just don't expect it to be any more reliable than Jag. I would recommend used vette (to be honest)

How was it inefficient. They just routed the tailpipe to one side, but is separate all the way from the heads. They only mistake was that Americans like dual exhausts to exit on opposite sides of the bumper. Really no different than the Vette having all the tips in the middle.

Because with both tailpipes exiting one side, it shifts the weight distribution off-center by 0.0000001%

Love the looks of the GTO. Never even got it in Canada. Awful shame.

I remember there be some type of hold up and the fact the car was only on a 3 year run. Some of the cons like the gas tank in the trunk was due to safety regulations.

Well to be honest the Jaguar has been very reliable. The reason not going with the GTO to begin with was because I didn't know how to drive a manual and wanted something for the winter/summer at the time.

That's right! It makes all the difference...

Actually, I have no idea of the relative efficiency of the two systems, but the '05+ version sure as hell looks a lot better.

You could get a 4th gen fbody, not as nimble or fun feeling but still huge aftermarket and you can make power stupid easy with just a cam swap. But then you'd have to grow a mullet, fck your cousin and replace all the electronics twice a year.

I'm not aware of any real electronics issues with them aside from a crappy solder joint in the BCM that can cause the radio to quit (easy fix) and poor power window wiring that kills window motors. But then, it isn't like the fbodies had a lot of electronic gizmos to go bad in the first place anyway

One is in Minnesota and the other is in Pennsylvania. After 7 years of daily driving I'm willing to bet they have a good amount of rust building up underneath. Mine has never been driven in the rain and has never been driven in the Winter on salty roads. Not a hint of rust on it.

Really? The first one has 92k miles on it, and the second has 71k. Theres a reason why those are so cheap.

Well if you want a garage queen then you're going to pay for it. I paid 19,500 for mine 4 years ago and it had about 18,000 on the odo. Prices had been dropping like a rock back then. Now that the cars are more affordable and are in demand the prices seem to have stabilized. I don't think you're going to get a low mileage 05 - 06 for much less than 18k. You might catch an unmolested stocker with 50k for like 17k. Gotta do some looking though. Doesnt sound like you're looking very hard though. Hit the gto web forum for sale sections. Thats where I found mind. And dont be surprised if you got to drive a bit to get one.

Grew up in NE Ohio and never saw rust issues on cars in the last 15 years. The only ones that ever had problem were the Toyota trucks or '80s Hondas.

You would be surprised by how much rust forms on the frame of the car after just a short period of time. When I worked at U-Haul, I would see rust covering the frame where we would instal hitches on vehicles only a year or 2 old. Then again, this is in minnesota where we salt the roads in the summer so it might be different elsewhere.

I dont know about the rest of you, but I would rather have a trailer/garage queen rather than a daily driver thats been used and probably abused for years, especially on a muscle car, and I would pay for it. I want to abuse it, not repair someone else's molestation.
