2005fpw backlight ...

As the topic says, I just got this monitor, rev a02 manufactured in August and I really like it. No dead pixels which is nice.

Took a pic with Dead Pixel Buddy with the black background and this is what I get:

So, really bad? Or just bad? Or just typical?

Hmm do you notice the light leakage on a black background? If not then it's fine but if you do, try for an exchange. I had to go through 4 of these before I got one I could keep.

Thanks for the replies.

I did take this pic in pretty much total darkness - which I suppose is a pretty harsh environment to test for backlighting.

I don't think I care that much to go through the whole exchange procedure (although I certainly can understand why people do - and I know Dell would do it). I would probably do it if I had some dead pixels though.

Oh well, c'est la vie. (that's life).

damn, 5150Joker, your monitor looks like it has no backlight at all.

You can see the blue tint caused by the CCFL though. Black+White=Blue for LCDs.

Yours looks a little worse than most pictures I've seen Bbut unless I turn my lights off and put it on that DPB black background, I don't notice the backlight bleeding at all, so it sort of doesn't matter if its not noticeable in normal usage. You could try turning your brightness down. Mine is down to 35, otherwise at 100 it is WAY to bright and also has a bit more bleeding (like yours does), otherwise mine is pretty good, not as even as 5150Joker's tho!!

It looks bad but who cares if it doesn't bother you.

My wife's 2005fpw has pretty much perfect backlight. My 2001fp has 2 big spots but it doesn't bother me.

Last night I took some pictures. This is using a black background from Dead Pixel Buddy. There are NO lights in my room and my blinds were shut, but it was late at night anyway.

So the pictures are super dark, but notice no bleeding at all by having the brightness turned way down. Later tonight I can take some more with a higher brightness, but I'm pretty happy with the backlight bleeding, er lack thereof, on my 2005FPW!

Note that those aren't dead/stuck pixels. I don't think so anyway. I think it's just specs of fuzz or dust on the camera lens. In the close up picture they look like 2 bad pixels, but in the far away, one of them lies off the screen and there are additional ones not on the screen as wel.

Oh well, i'm not going to make a big deal out this with my 2005fpw. At least I have a diamond-configuration.

Although you guys without any backlight bleed are lucky mofo's indeed!

Mine varies, once it heats up I get some splotches at the top, but it also depends how warm it is in the room. Only downside is if you want a REALLY dark background, like black with a design somewhere, you notice it in the dark. Other than that though, its really ok.

hmmmm....
mine looks a little like that too. I guess when you blank the screen, its not entirely black but more uniform blueish black in color.
