I ordered one as well. Was right at $400 with shipping from Dell Home (no tax)

Shipping was only $3 since they had some deal on 3-5 day shipping.

I'm sooooo excited I will be upgrading from an ANCIENT 17" compaq presario 1725 so 20" is going to be sweet.

Will it look ok at 1280x1024? That's what I run my 17" in and it's what my ti4200 128mb ddr card likes best with my games.

I hope I won't have to spend another $200-300 on a new video card next

haha. sorry. but i don't think it runs very well at 1280X1024. lcd's don't scale very well (at least from my experience)

Actually the 2005FPW can do 1280x1024 natively, so long as you set the display to not stretch the image to fill the screen.

but what's the point of that? might as well get a smaller lcd

Because you BUY it to run it's native reso. But not every game supports that. Now stop trying to talk people out of this lcd so that they'll sell it to you.

If you're a serious gamer who do not have the video card to handle the wide screen ratio, you might consider the 2001 model instead.

The wide screen resolution on FPS game will not look right unless you run its exact resolution or the game have a wide screen option like GTA SA.

I am still wondering if I should try to contact them and cancel it...if I can ever talk to someone.
Everytime I sign in it sends me to the small business section. Maybe that is because I signed up there, but when I try to talk to someone in text chat it tells me I am not a registered Home or Home business user and to try their other depts.

When I click contact on the top blue bar, there is a desktop support that inclueds monitors link on the next page. When I try to chat, it asks on the prechat page for a service tag number. You CAN NOT CHAT if you don't have their product in hand to look for this number!!!

(Just tried again for Order Support - chat support)...

Thank you

Is it okay to order from small business... if you don't have a small business? It's $20 more ($414), but who knows how long until the next deal comes along.

I heard long ago that Dell was known for it's great service. I suppose that has changed? Maybe it was only for technical support?
They need to revamp their customer support. They need 24/7 support. Having closed call centers for such a large business is not right.

Why do they make you push all these selections on the phone then when you finally narrow it down they tell you Dell phone support is currently closed??! Tell me at the BEGINNING!

I am still wondering if I can sell this on Ebay for greater than what I bought it for and less than new price...It's just now I can't buy a video card to go with widescreen with bills I have to pay.
I suppose I can use my CRT widescreen in lower res until then.

I am not a monitor techie. Ask the people in Video about the technical details.
It costs more right now since you can't get coupons that I know of. I can't afford $600. Would be nice since I can walk into my BB and get it now.

I bought the Gateway FPD2185W from a BestBuy. The panel is fantastic. It looks ugly in the pictures, but is shiny on the sides, the back, and the front. I have connected an S-Video source, and the picture looks better than the 2005FPW (BTW this is my 6th 2005FPW panel... and I am waiting on a 7th replacement that's suppose to be here on Monday). I have ran it for dead pixels and everything, and nada. I also ran Day of Defeat for like 10 minutes (played the annoying chyrad_v2 map). In The videos and pictures look similar to the 2005FPW. I haven't checked the monitor for backlight bleed yet, as the Sun is still shining in my room. I will update this post at night to let you guys know about the backlight bleed.

The panel's packaging was one of the most annoying - I had to call my brother for help to get it removed from its packaging; it's sealed tight, but still. ANother major issue is the freaking panel is not supplied with a DVI cable (no big issue as I have a couple of them lying around anyway). All in all, I am, up to this point better satisfied with this monitor's performance and colors compared to the DELL's. I may be exaggerating a bit, but then I am still a living example of DELL's lack of service... I have exchanged the 2005FPW for 7 times (almost) and still have no success getting a perfect panel. Look out for this thread later at night for my assessment of the backlight bleed.

Also, the 10% off BB code doesn't work. I paid $641.99 for this panel - if it has no backlight bleeding issues, I am going to keep it. On the contrary, I paid $540 of the 6th 2005FPW replacement. If I get quality @ $641.99, I don't mind it. Moreover, this panel fully supprts HDTV @ 720p, too.

Dell gets slammed whenever these coupons show up. I ordered one on July 28th the last time when it was $359, but my order didn't ship for almost two weeks. No amount of speaking with Dell reps could do anything about that. And it's funny ITPaladin, I was in the same situation. I was leaving since the semester was ending and I planned to have it long before leaving for 2 weeks. Yet the fvcker toook so long to ship that I talked to Dell explaining my situation of not being around, and they promised next-day shipping for free but they lied to everyone with that crap. So I ended up getting it the very day I was leaving, except it was some retarded shipping and I had to wait around just to unpack and view, then leave the beauty for 2 weeks while I was away.

And WTF? SEVEN replacements? That's absurd. Just get your money back, it sucks for Dell to waste all that money on people who have to have the perfect LCD monitor which you will never get because it doesn't exist. And as far as backlight bleed, the new August ones are generally VERY good. At 50 brightness, I have a near perfect backlight and that is under a harsh test setting of completely dark room, completely black screen. Never in any normal usage do you get like that.

In fact, here's pictures of mine. You can barely tell the screen is there since it's almost as black as the surroundins. This was at brightness 35, but since then I've increased to 50 with no change in backlight bleed (it's still even). Anything 70 or above is IMO far too bright on certain colored backgrounds.

backlight 1
backlight 2

edit: And yes you can chat on Dell chat without a product code. I talked with them 3 times on there (very nice service IMO) while trying to get my monitor shipped earlier since I was in the same position as you. But again, there is really no point, they gotta wait for more from the factory. You could get all angry and maybe get a coupon code but when they are practically giving them away already I don't think they'd be very inclined to. You can have them send it to a different address where you will be. Otherwise you're just gonna have to cancel.
