2100 Federal, not sure about state. Was able to deduct college expenses for my wife which really shot up the refund amount. Previously we were only getting around $500 back.

Amazing.
31 posts and no comment from the tax refund nazis yet.

Anyway, I'll get near $2700.
Usually I get under $1K but I get to itemize this year and I get to deduct the loss of my car...~$8K.

How do you guys get such high refunds? Is it children, marriage, or home ownership? I've recently graduated from college, live in an apt, no children, and am not married. After deducting interest paid on student loans, I get ~80 federal and ~20 state in refunds. I actually owed when not figuring in student loan interest. I don't make all that much, but the cost of living in my area isn't that high. I'm also paying tuition for grad school.

My wife and I will owe significantly more than most people here make in a year...

It revolves around her ownership of a company. The corporate structure's tax implications are such that each year around this time she takes a HUGE cash distribution which we then turn around and give to Uncle Sam in its entirety.

It sucks writing that fat check, but ultimately, the company should get sold and daddy gets a new pair of shoes...

Refund will be $0...or negative, depending on how you look at it as I owe money...which I will draw from my 5%+ savings account and pay as close to the due date as possible

I'm sad that I don't get any free money from the government this year

No kids and not enough medical deductions. It was mostly in the house, property taxes, lots of donations, personal deductions, student loan interest, etc.
