Dude, are you from Hong Kong or something? You act like someone just skeeted all over your flag.

haha, no, I'm just mad they didn't do the movie justice.

it will make people more aware of Infernal Affairs though, so I'll stop b1tching about it

btw, Hong Kong is not a country

I don't see where he said Hong Kong was a country.

The Departed >>>>>>> Internal Affairs. Just because it was the original or whatever, doesn't make it better. Oh shuddup.

Congrats to Forest Whitaker. "Last King of Scotland" was a fantastic movie, his winning every major this year is well deserved.

I love living in Cambridge, 5min from a theatre that specializes in indie/foreign/special interest films... Kendall Square Cinema FTW! That movie didn't get much run anywhere else around here.

"The Departed" is also one of the best movies I've ever seen, kudos to Scorsese too. Of course, I'm biased being born and raised in Boston and all.

wow, you guys are jaded....I thought I was the bitter movie critic.

Scorsese should have won for Raging Bull...oh well. I thought The Departed was damn good, but never saw Infernal Affairs. Was it really that good, or are the guys here that sing its praises Asian film freaks....the type that think John Woo is any good? If so, that's not a recommendation I can trust

Anywho, I didn't think the films that were up were really that bad this year. The Oscars will never get all of the best stuff out there, but it's been better than previous years (rem Titanic Winning; Braveheart winning in a year of ****** movies)

I think I missed 6 pics from the Oscar ballot at my local video store (here's hoping for 10 free rentals....). Only surprise for me was Babel not winning for picture, and lesbian beating out Beyonce for song

Raging Bull was New York...and there were gangsters involved. Besides the Aviator, the only other a-typical Scorsese flick was The Age of Innocence.

EDIT: quoting dennilfloss/cellar door from prev page...

Ok, who is this old guy talking next to Clint? He's going on way too long.

Ennio Morricone. Some of use like to hear what the winners have to say and have an attention span beyond 45 seconds.
I wasn't listening...I kept looking at Rashida Jones sitting next to dad Quincy in Morricone's private balcony. Rashida looked hot, as usual.

Departed was a great movie, anyone who claims it's a "total copy" of I.A. is a royal d!psh!t. As others have stated, it was based off, I saw both and I can't say Departed was anything more then a movie that was based on and took a liking to I.A. What the fvck ever though it was still a good movie. And for the record, I.A. wasn't like "OMGWTFBBQ!?!" good.

Jennifer Hudson deserved to win, and while 5'9 Amazon like females of color ain't every mans cup of tea. I think she is very beautiful and would love to be her male groupie love slave.

I didn't like The Departed and Martin Scorsese only won because he got the "sympathy vote".

I didn't see all the films in the Best Film category so I cannot comment on who should have won; I only know that The Departed just wasn't THAT worthy.

This is what I was hoping for:

Best Film: (Definitely NOT The Departed or Little Miss Sunshine)
Best Director: Peter Greengrass for United 93
Best Actor: Really hard one here. This award should have gone to Peter O'Toole but Forest did do an excellent job.
Best Supporting Actor: How did it go to a man who was dead for half the film? Should have gone to Hounsou.
Best Actress: Helen Mirren
Best Supporting Actress: Not sure but I bet Hudson only won because of the FOX/American Idol power vote somehow.

Why they would give an Oscar to Babel for the best Musical Score?
Exactly the same "score" was used few years ago in the movie Insider with Russell Crowe, so they were just recycling the old stuff?
This is really weird and it gets me as the music was critical in the Insider ( I still have the original soundtrack CD).
Now some other movie just grabs the same score and gets the Oscar for it... WTF?

You're an idiot. (based on last comment).

I agree that The Departed wasn't the best of those nominated. I think Sunshine, actually, should have won ahead of that. I thought Babel was a lock, though.

Greengrass for Best Director? right...that was a sympathy nomination. If anything, it probably deserved best editing. I also thought Arkin was a lock for best supporting actor.

The "sympathy vote" is probably true. Did Denzel deserve an Oscar for Training Day? Hell no..That should ahve been for Glory. Same with Phillip Seymour Hoffman last year. He was great in Capote, but I think that Oscar was a nod to all of his other unappreciated work. Anyway, no director in the running this year had anything special above Scorsese. Hollywood planned this to be the "Scorsese show" all year long....

Agreed. "Borat" being a contender for anything is a nice gauge of the lessening in quality of studio films that the audience has been forced to deal with since the end of the 70s.
...thank you very much, "Star Wars" and Lucas
