Thinking about buying a used 2007 TL with 50k miles and was curious to see if anybody here have any experience with Acuras and can attest to their reliability. Thanks!

It's a Honda? That should be all you need to know about it's reliability.

About as reliable as posters not knowing how to find the garage...

Sorry didn't realize there was a garage forum now.

I can get a 2007 TL base with 50k for 22k out the door. Trying to figure if this would last me a while or if I should look into a used V6 Camry or Maxima.

You could get a brand new Altima V6 for very, very close to that price if you shop a little.

did they ever fix the autotragic transmission in these things?

After the autotragic fiascos of the 2001-2004 5 speed auto tls, they improved the oil flow of the 3rd gear clutch packs of the 2005-2006. Finally in 2007, the 5 speed auto was re-designed with a 3 shaft arrangement (the prior 2 shaft arrangement was the culprit as the 3rd gear clutch pack was the furthest away from the oil pump - so it constantly starved out of oil, until the oil jet recall was done. By going 3 shaft, the clutch packs are much closer now to the oil pump). AFAIK, the 07-on 3 shaft 5 speed autos have been bulletproof without any widespread failures. I would change the tranny oil every 30k miles instead if what the manual says at about 60k. Always use genuine Honda ATF too, it doesn't like other brands too much.

Thanks for the tip. Still trying to decide if i should go with this or a newer Toyota or Nissan without some of the features.

Yes. That was primarily a problem in the 98-02 Accord and 99-03 TL.

Just looking up the model on Consumer Reports now, basically the entire 04-08 revision of the TL was very reliable. The minor problem areas are in the electrical system and audio system. But overall they are rated very highly.

They also look WORLDS better than the current Acura crap.

Yeah the current Acura management needs to throw themselves onto their samurai swords. Not only are they designing ugly cars, they're also coming out with stupid cars like the ILX that the top end motor I only available with a 6 speed manual (which is fine), BUT no LSD AND then they make it only available as a stripper config with no navi and upgraded stereo available.

For that money, I'd shop around for a new/newer car. The car depreciated, 30% in 6 years?

I have a 2007 BMW 550i that I couldn't sell for 22k. The used car market is broken

I'm trying to get a combination of reliable with a fun drive. Not sure what's the best bang for the buck. I've been looking at 2007-2011 Camry V6 SEs but they also sell for a premium.

I was looking at 08 TLs last February with less miles for around 22-23k. Price seems high.

Is there a better buy for a 20k price range?

I've seen good 335i Sedans for that range here in DFW, but of course one must consider the cost of maintenance on those (and make sure the HPFP warranty/replacement/etc has all been taken care of).
